I go here at least twice a week for the past 3 years (minus one year for covid). I would put quality and consistency at a 3 star typically but today was the straw that broke the camels back. I ordered a grilled cheese and cup of tomato bisque. On the chalkboard it says a cup of soup should be $5.49 and now it is $7.99 in the POS. I made a comment about it and they said they just haven't updated the board yet. Whatever. The thing that made me write a bad review is that my grilled cheese WAS NOT GRILLED. IT WAS LITERALLY WHITE BREAD WITH CHEESE ON IT. I paid $14 for a cup of bisque and white bread with cheese on it. I'm done. I cannot justify going here with EH service all the time. If you are going to charge that much for soup and a sandwich, make sure its right at least.
If I could give zero stars I would. I went in today with a group of co-workers, and the guy with glasses came from the kitchen and got in my face and instructed me to close the door as we were walking in. He was literally yelling like a maniac! There was a long line, and we were all trying to stay together, so we stood in line at the door, and waited to order. We were all in disbelief, but given our time crunch, we proceeded to order our food. The guy continued to yell at other patrons that came in. I started to notice that he mainly took on this tone with the minorities that entered the establishment. He even yelled at a black police officer that came to get food, and the officer left without ordering. It's unfortunate because the food was pretty good, but I will never visit this establishment again. It seems other people have had this experience based on the reviews, so I doubt he or the owner care.
Good coffee the lady that took my order was friendly and helpful, but the guy in the back (manager?) has a serious attitude problem. He was extremely rude, in fact downright nasty, to a number of customers while I was there. I’ll wait in line at Starbuck’s the next time I’m in downtown Raleigh.
My absolute favorite lunch spot in downtown Raleigh. Never had a sandwich here I didn't like. I love the staff. Cucumber salad as a side is not on the menu, but my favorite thing to get! Also, their ice cream/milkshakes are PHENOMENAL and severely underrated.
Been coming here for years, wouldn't change a thing about it. You're probably going to see some reviews that say things like "staff is rude" or "food is overpriced". Usually the guy manning the register is a short guy who regularly busts people's chops. It's not out of bitterness or resentment, he's just a dude who goes to a lot of punk shows and doesn't mince words when he doesn't need to. Also, the food is a bit pricey, yes, but it's also smack-dab in the middle of downtown. That's just how it is. If you want a cheap sandwich from a chain, there are other places to get that.
The food is amazing (particularly the roast beef melt and the egg salad sandwich) and their menu is incredibly varied. Perfect spot for lunch, coffee, or something sweet. Don't get your feelings hurt if the staff aren't grinning automatons like they're Applebees workers.
Everyone is rude here. Have been dozens of times and each time the cashier is rude. This morning was the last straw. A worker in the back - brown haired tall male with glasses - told my pregnant coworker and I to move in a very rude way. We were shocked. We were not standing in anyone's way and the space is extremely cramped. There is no where to stand without being in the way. Extremely rude and unfriendly service. Smells like dirty bathroom and rotten milk. Drinks are subpar. Service is terrible. And the sandwiches are just gross now. Don't waste your time.
Original Review: Really great affordable ice cream, breakfast and coffee in the middle of downtown.
These people remember everyone's name. Their cold brew is liquor-strong with no bitterness whatsoever. Sandwiches are humble but delicious nonetheless. If you are going to order for lunch, please call them before 11. They get inundated. It's not their fault, they're just that popular.

How are you not going to toast a Ruben dude? Like, that's an integral part of making a Ruben. The woman at the counter was nice.
