Likely one of the worst customer service experiences that I have ever encountered. Extremely rude barista. Not "locally owned" or "operated". Eleven years in North Carolina will not warrant you to be a true North Carolinian business. I promptly left after the barista informed me there was absolutely nothing on their menu for less than $2.75, not even a cup of hot tea.
I will never go back to 4 J's Bakery Inc. As a Southerner by birth, I do not frequent places where rude employees from the Northeast claim to "local". I sure will not be supporting this type of business on my favorite beach strand on North Carolina's Crystal Coast.

service wasn’t the best, and the coffee was not good. it tasted a bit bitter. but the place itself was nice, cute decorations and the muffins were good

Nothing special. Coffee was fine but not very many options for breakfast. Bagels appear to be the primary attraction but they we're already out of most flavors when we arrived at 8:30. I get that they want to offer fresh products daily but when you consistently run out everyday soon after opening as other reviewers have indicated, maybe you need to start planning for more daily volume. Also seemed a bit overpriced, even charging for a single, small packet of cream cheese. Bottom line, there are better coffee shop options in Emerald Isle.

We love 4J's. LOVE it. Unfortunately, the staff are not wearing masks or gloves. Coffee and things are the best here! Ambience is the best. Staff are the best. But ,we will wait until the pandemic is over to return or when they start wearing gear. Good luck and stay safe everyone!
If you all start wearing protective gear or offer curbside let us know please!

Owner is EXTREMELY RUDE!!!!!!
NO remote concept of "custom service". Grim face like someone just died and seems generally annoyed by the customers that used to support his small business and coffee is mediocre at best.
There's a great coffee place across the street next to food lion.
WAY better service AND much better service.

They keep the shop dark which is nice to get out of the heat. They also stock a wide variety of interesting things for the kitchen. The coffee they sell has a woody, mellow taste. I like a darker roast but this is still a good choice.

I Loved the coffee, the service was fantastic, and the bagels were so good! Yes, it seems that they were low on bagels, out of more than a few varieties and didn't have butter for their bagels. It's very self service too, so expect that. It's the "local's favorite", is my guess and I will return any time I get a chance.

This was a great place. A coffee shop, bakery, and general store. The perfect place to pick up those random items you might have forgotten to pack.

Stopped by for coffee and was impressed. The Irish pirate special was good and I am interested in trying all the specials. Interior is exactly what you might expect from a coffee shop (cozy, dim, relaxing), although I was not expecting that on the island so this was a nice surprise.

This is more of a country store than a coffee shop. They walk you through like cattle. Lots of instructions m, don’t do this and do that. Muffin was decent and coffee was mediocre.
