WORD is love at first sight❤️ It is located on a cute block, right next to Hamilton Park. Homey, cozy and neat bookstore with great selection of books in variety of genres. Fantastic children's literature section, offering art supplies and toys in addition to books. Reasonable prices! Sales people are knowledgeable and patient with customers of all ages. Will certainly be back!
A handy neighborhood bookstore located in Hamilton Park in Jersey City. They also have a location in Greenpoint in Brooklyn. While perhaps not the widest selection of books, it still stocks an impressive variety of books. A book lover won't have any issue finding something to read.
In theory, I should like this place. I have a young daughter who I am encouraging to read and would prefer to support a local bookstore as opposed to amazon. The staff here isn’t very welcoming. I am not the guy who looks for nor wants a lot of customer service interaction. My experience was that I walked into the shop, carrying my daughter, at a time that there were no other customers in the place. Neither of the employees greeted me nor asked me if I needed help finding anything. As I browsed the shelves, I was planning to pick up a couple books and cancel an outstanding amazon order, but one of the staff walked by me to re-shelve books, whispered ‘excuse me’ and still didn’t ask if I was finding everything alright. It was almost as though I was in the way (in an empty shop); and seemed oddly cold and unwelcoming, something you can get by buying online while spending less. I walked out. I won’t be going back. 2 stars for selection. Maybe your customer experience will be different.
I’m a frequent at this bookstore because it’s incredible selection of books and games, devotion to local artists and authors, and their amazing and friendly staff. WORD is also perfectly located on Newark Street - I can’t resist stopping in every time I’m in the area!
A lovely coffee-bookstore in NJC, progressive and gay friendly. Staff smiling and happy. Although there is not a great variety of titles on shelves, there is e-shop available to satisfy one’s appetite and there are clothing stuff sold. I loved the socks! Cards accepted.
A great community store! They are always kind and helpful and can order anything you need. Does it come in two days? No. But it does come and it's held by the staff for you, as opposed to being chucked onto your doorstep by an underpaid, over stressed Amazon worker.
Reminds me of a library! They have cookbooks, recipe books in colorful pages & lots of books for kids too! You can do some reading in one section of the bookstore & order your fave coffee at the same time too!
This place is ingenious! Food and books, two excellent things in life that can and should be enjoyed together. Not only that but they have a wonderfully eclectic selection of both, you can easily stumble upon treasures around every corner. Vegan and gluten free options abound with a myriad selection of local, interesting desserts. Walked in on an event they were hosting which gives the place an even more awesome vibe. Amazing spot in the neighborhood ♡
