This is is an edit to original review. My first experience there was not a pleasant one and after a couple of months I decided to give it another try. I’m really glad I did, what a gratifying surprise, great coffee, amazing staff and just incredible humans.
Ps. There is a sign now not to use the piano, hahahah no further confusion.

The smell of fresh coffee hits you as you open the door. The glass panes go from ceiling to floor facing large abandoned buildings that look like something out of Gotham. And respect on their choice of music. It's not the best setting for freelancers like me who drag our laptops everywhere, with their low tables and one narrow counter with a few high stools. But consider it a testament to how much I liked the coffee and ambiance that I endured sitting on that high stool typing away for a couple of hours. Going for seconds soon.

Freshly roasted beans carefully measured out to the right amount, then masterfully brewed and poured for every individual experience! Not stuffy or overly intimidating in their coffee expertise, but very knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. Clever artwork.

Living upstairs to this coffee shop. Their coffee tastes bitterly, which is fine cuz every body has a different taste for coffee. This is also why I always ask for extra milk for a no-ice Latte. I have never been extra charged regarding this request. But today, the owner told me I have to pay more if I want extra milk, which is also fine to me despite that I have not been charged before. So my first suggestion is, either you train your workers to make the price consistent, or don't raise the price to whatever you want. In addition to this, I received a straw with lots of wrinkles today, so I asked for another straw cuz this one was broken. The owner carefully double-checked the straw and claimed that "no, this straw is fine". I have to ask, so a straw with numerous wrinkles is normal to this coffee shop? I just ask for another straw and all you did was to inspect it and tell the customer "oh dear, you are so wrong"? Anyway, all these cheap actions just make me feel disrespectful and will not come back again and hope other customers can all see this review to recognize how cheap this coffee shop is.

Your typical coffee snobs that think there is no other coffee shop than them and Starbucks, maybe cause all they know is White only establishments. I recommend you go literally anywhere else, after all you are in Jersey City a vibrant city with a long history of great coffee from Latin America. Anywhere else would be better than this uppity White gentrifying space. The white male presenting at the register is extremely disrespectful and passive aggressive. Newsflash, there is great coffee in many other places in Jersey City, that are also cozy and welcoming!

Everything about this place is superb. We had a house blend hot latte and a pour over Panama Gesha, both were excellent. The best of our trip. And we haven't even got to the decor which is also extremely cool and chill. We can probably sit here all day and be happy. The batista (or owner?) was very knowledgeable and masterful. He was the only batista for the whole trip who invited us to smell the coffee after it was grounded and during the second dripping process.
10 out of 5 if we can give that to this place!

Amazing Service, Good Cappuccino, decent Croissant (if it were one-day fresher it would've been excellent) unfortunately like other Jersey City/Hoboken Coffee Shops they don't have any outdoor seating and as a result by Jersey State Law, you're not allowed to chill with your dog and I'm not that guy to purchase an emotional support dog certificate, (fake certificate) The fortunate thing is that Jersey City bussiness's are allowed, I believe to use a portion of the sidewalk directly in front of the Business and especially in the land of Covid and dog friendly neighborhoods this may increase business for this fine Swanky Coffee, I mean they do more less have all the other makings of a very good creative, crafty, feel-good Coffee shop.
Swanky - Comfy - Ultra Lounge feel Goodness.

The price is always inconsistent, I am assuming every staff has different price list on their mind. Sometimes overcharge was made without a proper reason. I like the vibe but the lack of consistency in price and the coffee quality needs improvement.

Great ambiance. The nitro and the mocha were good. We got the chai tea. It was average.

Modcup is a truly exceptional roaster and coffee shop. In Jersey City, it's fair to say they are second to none. In my four years living here, I've walked into the Journal Square roasting facility a handful of times. Each time, I've learned something new and valuable about specialty coffee. Their cold brew, pour overs, espresso, and milk drinks have all been world class. When I have ordered beans online or purchased from local retailers, the offerings have always been unique and delicious.
In the past year, I began working for a business that exclusively uses Modcup in all of our drinks from filter to espresso, and I've seen first hand the quality and consistency from month to month. Shoutout to Malcolm and the two Chrises for all the helpful info and fun talks on my last visit! These guys are the real deal.
