Backstory Coffee Roasters

Look, this is THE place. They are hands down the best roaster in Minnesota. They aren’t a one temp for everything, cook the living hell out of the beans kinda place. They actually care about the coffee, so the roasts are appropriate for the beans that are being roasted. The result is you get to have all the flavor from their coffee, which is good because they are getting some really special beans in there. I love them so much that I’d put them up against any of the top roasters in California, Washington, Austin, Chicago, or anywhere else for that matter. The best part is they are neither over priced or pretentious! If you care about your coffee, you really need to try this shop!!!

My first time here and I can tell you I will be back!! I ordered from their take out window, which is really great during these covid times. They helped me right away and had a nice heater for me to stand by while they made my drink. I ordered the Miel with Almond milk and it was the best Miel I've ever had! You get the subtle sweetness of the honey, a little spice from the cinnamon, it was the perfect drink for this cold January morning. You can tell they really do use the best quality ingredients and care about what they are making. Go check it out!

First time here,pick up window open, not the cafe, ordered a cup of blue collar coffee and a bag of Peru Lima and cinnamon croissant. Order on line walk up pick up pretty simple.

I've been coming here for years, not sure how I've never left a review.
The coffee has always been great, the muffins and danishes are good. You HAVE to try the seasonal specials. My favorite they've ever had is the spring lemon lavender miel latte.
The workers are always really nice and friendly. It's a lovely place to come for a quiet cup of coffee in the mornings. I studied for my GRE here because it's nice and peaceful on summer mornings. 10/10 would recommend

5 stars for coffee quality, the best in St Paul. The only reason I give 4 stars is that it's disappointing the cafe is still closed. I get why it would have been closed from 2020-2021 but we have the means to protect ourselves now.

Maybe I'm not understanding something but to be a destination coffee spot, it's a bummer the indoor space isn't operating.

UPDATE: Indoor seating is now open, full 5 stars to this awesome shop.

The vanilla bean latte wasn’t it today. Just tasted like straight whole milk and old coffee.

This is the best coffee (imo) in the Twin Cities. I have this shipped to me when I am out of state that is how much I love these peoples and their coffee. Always pull a great espresso, always roast their beans on point. Thanks Bootstrap.. All of you. You are a part of my everyday life.

Today was my first time getting Bootstrap coffee and I have been missing out! The staff is so friendly and chatted while I tried to decide what I wanted. The maple latte is the best latte I have ever had. I’m almost finished and am contemplating going back for another…will absolutely be going back!
