Hidden behind Rubiner's cheese mongers is this delightful coffee and sandwich shop. The atmosphere is old school with beautiful tree decor in the dining area. The sandwiches were made with the fantastic cheese from next door and tasted amazing. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Delicious super high-end food with a young, good-snobbish French coffee shop/ speakeasy vibe, all happening in a tucked away hard to find corner in downtown Great Barrington.

Nice place and good coffee and bakeries, however the staff seems to be not up to task and borderline rude. They definitely aren't friendly and give you the sense that they really don't care about you. This is my third time here, and every time I come, I wait more than I should.
Despite good food/drinks and atmosphere, staff makes me not want to come back.

This is a great quaint sandwich shop tucked in a corner of Great Barrington. All of their cheese comes from the cheesemonger next door, and you can always taste the quality. The environment is spectacular with a beautiful natural woody feel. The sandwichs do often take quite a while to come out (sometimes half an hour plus), but if you're willing to wait, it's definitely worth it!

I observed this:
The person at the register was taking money and credit card touching her face, touching her belly when she showed her belly necklace, touching dirty dishes and touching peoples food without washing hands or wearing gloves.
Me: excuse me but could you NOT cut my sandwich and leave it wrapped. I’m having surgery and you are cross contaminating the food.
Waitress: this place has germs ….maybe you shouldn’t come to this restaurant for your protection
Manager Eric : is there a problem bc we are busy
Me: yes I asked her not to unwrap my sandwich bc she is not washing her hands or wearing gloves and cross contaminating food.
He was not happy with me!!!
So before I left she washed her hands, put on the gloves cut my sandwich!!! Looked at me and said, “I cut your sandwich.” She looked a little stunned.
On leaving I said to the manger: you should know that if the board of health saw this you could be shut down. It’s called cross contamination.
I don’t know if he had a clue but he did then say you should wear gloves to the waitress. My opinion is if you don’t mind this type of occurrence then go there. The food itself is good if they don’t cross contaminate. Keep an eye out.
Isn’t that the law when touching someone’s food??

I was looking forward to this place, and then I was met with the just an awful personality. This guy with a perfectly trimmed beard was just a jerk. I felt very unwelcome here, like he was disturbed that I came over his house and asking him for a cup of coffee. Just a very unpleasant experience. I’d rather go and get a coffee at a gas station then come back here. And I hate gas station coffee.

The grilled cheese is sublime, likely the best you have ever eaten. It was the best for me. We saw them dip the entire sandwich in butter before grilling (Drops microphone).

If you like your coffee with a side of rude and arrogant staff, then I highly recommend this place.

Adorable little spot, great Chai Tea, a GB staple … But consistently Rude service.
I come back frequently hoping it was a one time experience, but it seems the staff here enjoy sticking their nose up at costumers. Nevertheless I’ll try again hoping for a better result. Until then 2stars it is
