Huge fan of this local Dorchester gem cafe, cash only (ATM is inside), but they offer a variety of ice coffee flavors you won't find elsewhere (Banana nut is a favorite) in huge cups.
Also their sandwiches aren't made in a microwave which is nice.
Oh they also serve ice cream and have a bunch of interesting little pieces of "art"/"historical" signs around the place.
There's a back room with couches and plush chairs but it might be closed for COVID...
Awesome place. Stumbled upon it last weekend. Great atmosphere inside, extremely welcoming staff, and the coffee/food is some of the best I have had in a while. Will be going back often for sure.
This is a great little spot that the locals love. It is extremely cozy always. Me and my mom love going there and getting coffee and sandwiches and we sit down and talk which has spots near the window and spots in the back that are more mellow and quiet to relax and enjoy your coffee with friends. I definitely would recommend going there and trying it! Especially there desserts!
From the outside the shop has a nice charm and draws you in. I love the little spoon in the cement below the door. Upon entering the store there are so many wonderful smells and the staff there nearly always greet you as you enter. The decorum could use some updatting. I really like the cozy vintage vibe, however some of the furniture come off as a little too old and worn down. Most of the furniture inside the store is very dark too which kind of throws you off from the bright purple, bubbly outside that the store has.
The staff are phenomenal. They make you feel right at home and taken care of. My very first time I went to the Sugar Bowl I didn't realize it was cash only (a small draw back) and the staff gave me a small, delicious coffee on the house. I've been coming back ever since!
The baked goods, coffee, foods, and staff make this place a must visit!
Recommend this to any Bostonian. Happened upon this place when I was headed to the Dunks next door. Happy I took the chance and tried out the Sugar Bowl. Coffee was delicious, pastry was fresh, and the service was delightful. Will be coming back.
Went to do some work on my laptop, I got a French vanilla iced coffee. It was delicious, just the right amount of sweet and flavor. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, with plugs for your phone and laptop at every seat. Will visit again!
Best pineapple coconut cake I ever had in my life. Thus place seems like you are sitting in your grandmother's living room. Coffee is 10 times better than any Starbucks or Cafe Nero :) Just bring cash. No credit card accepted. ATM on premises :)
This is one of Boston's little hidden gems. I love the look and feeling of this place. The owner of this location has been there the few times and he is a sweet heart. They have a fair selection of ice creams and pastries as well for coffee. The back of this little coffee house turns into a back in time adventure, with vintage seating, different sizes and styles. I truly love this homie little hidden gem.
First time at sugar bowl and it will be my last. The lack of customer service and enthusiasm was unbelievable, there was one other customer aside from myself. They weren’t busy, therefore plenty of seats available. I ordered a cappuccino which was basically 95% milk and the girl didn’t even bother to ask whether it was go but just assumed it was. My egg & cheese sandwich was okay, a bit bland. After grabbing my order I found a spot and sat to eat. Decided to go up and order a muffin and the girl just handed it over to me with no gloves. I asked if it could be warmed up with butter, a couple minutes later it’s given to me wrapped in foil..no plate even though at this point I’m settled in. I open it and not only was it not warm, but it looked like it had been karate chopped. Literally in cube pieces. It was the most disappointing experience, such a cute atmosphere and sadly not an inviting one. I went on a Friday 2/15/19 around 2pm.
Come for the coffee. Stay for the atmosphere. I spent a morning working here during a quick stop in Boston, and, over several hours, it felt like everyone who came in had two things in common: a thick boston accent and a personal connection to each other--staff included. They knew each other's names, were talking about recent weddings, goings on about town, etc. I've never felt such a truly authentic neighborhood vibe. It warmed my heart and gave me a deep appreciation for the neighborhood.
Aside from that, it's a good place to work or hangout, with some tables and some comfy chairs. Coffee was cheap and tasty. I didn't try any of the food but it looked great. 10/10 would recommend.
