I stopped in to ButterUpCakes cafe today for the first time with my parents who live in the area. I was intrigued by this cafe because it’s rare to see a bakery which boasts being both vegan and gluten free. I guess that was my mistake.
Upon entering the cafe, we found no one to be seen. Eventually two young women wandered in and asked us what we’d like. Having seen a machine marked “ice coffee” with a few flavorings scribbled underneath, I asked if they had iced coffee available. The woman in charge stared at me and pointed to the machine, blurting “yeah, it’s in that machine right there, the one marked ‘iced coffee.’” She then asked what flavor I wanted and when I said “just regular ice coffee” she said “we don’t do that here, it’s only flavored. If you want that you’d better go to Cupacity, down the street.” I decided to brush off this comment, and told her I’d make do with hot coffee instead. She seemed generally displeased that we were even there, despite us being probably the only people to walk through their doors all day. I could see three of the other employees slumped in chairs in the back room on their phones, seemingly with nothing better to do. When I asked for an arepa, I was told “oh, we don’t have any of those today.” The sandwich I got instead consisted of a few chunks of chicken and four chunks of raw onion, between two cold slices of toast.
Perhaps if the cafe’s interior decor hadn’t been so tastelessly offensive, I wouldn’t have minded the staff’s impoliteness so much. The lesson learned here: just because it’s the only vegan bakery in town, doesn’t make it worth the while.

I have rarely been to a cafe that has felt more welcome and warm.. the food and coffee were beyond what I could have possibly comprehend.. if the owner ever sees this, Thank You, you have a customer as long as I’m stationed here..

If you are gluten free this is the place for you! So many delicious options! The staff is wonderful and super friendly! Great place! Be nice, do not bring in outside food! This is truly a gluten free bakery!

The best Gluten-free baked goods I've ever eaten! The biscuits and gravy were fantastic. The breakfast sandwich with homemade sausage, on a GF biscuit, was great, if a bit messy.
The pierogis are perfect to take home and cook yourself.
The brownies are the best brownie I've ever had, GF or regular.
The oatmeal cream pie was great. A crispy edge, and chewy interior, filled with cream cheese frosting that balances sweetness perfectly. The same can be said of any of their cakes: almost indistinguishable from a regular cake, and the frostings are never cloyingly sweet.

We got fresh pierogies to have with supper. The woman at the counter was very helpful and gave us tips about cooking them at home. They were very good!! I also got a peach doughnut which was outstanding! I'll be going back to try more goodies soon.

This bakery is the best! With a gluten allergy, it’s so nice to be able to order anything on the menu and not worry about whether or not it’s safe to eat.

The food is amazing! I'm so glad that a GF place opened up in this small town. If I wasn't trying to lose weight, I'd come here daily for their sweets. Reasonable prices and friendly folks make it all the better.

What an awesome GF bakery. Everything I tried was fabulous. The staff and owners were great and very happy to answer any questions about their food. I highly recommend for those GF people out there and even non GF peeps. Loved it!

Absolutely amazing desserts. The pumpkin bread, as well as all the other things we purchased, were delicious- so moist, so yummy. Highly recommended!
