Great, spacious coffee shop with a great atmosphere, big menu of drinks, food & now their own bakery. Definitely a must-hit spot if you're in Iowa City and want breakfast, coffee or a place to chill and get work done.

Cool place food was inexpensive but good.

Encounter is my go to place for both food and coffee! They are the best cafe in Iowa City. Not only will your tummy be happy after stopping here, the employees are the kindest individuals ever and is what really makes them stand out. Several times I have witnessed them handle individuals with disabilities with patience and kindness. Often times encounter is busy, but it is always worth it. I would recommend it to everyone.

Stopped for a cup of coffee, vibes were great, staff was nice. Will come back for breakfast sometime.

I came here for the first time this Saturday because I’ve only heard great things. This cafe has a great ice white mocha and the staff was very friendly! Food was amazing and the wait time was reasonable for lunch/brunch time on the weekend. Wish I came here sooner :)

Lovely coffee shop with delicious food. (Don't be intimidated by the religious theme, it's not a big deal)

The Encounter Cafe would be my favorite go-to place for breakfast and lunch if I lived in the area. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, the employees are kind and efficient and the building is relaxing, spacious and clean. I’m definitely going to take some bakery treats as I go on my way.

The design, experience and food/drink is excellent.
I’m confused by why the staff appears to have walked off the set of Little House on the Prairie. On multiple occasions I’ve visited and the staff comprised of young women in their early 20s are wearing full dresses designed in the 1800s and doilies on their heads.
That plus the not subtle religious decorations and books have me wondering what kind of sect is operating here.
One that knows how to operate an excellent cafe, but still.

Coffee and sandwich hit the spot! Great customer service, the employees were very friendly.
