It was 2 in the afternoon, during the weekday, when we stopped in, and it took almost 1 hour to get 3 smoothies.
There was a handful of people there, and the 2 people working weren't slouching, so not sure how it why it took so long.
Smoothies did taste good, but certainly not worth the 1 hr wait.

Waited over 10 minutes for a $10 smoothie. There is no sense of urgency or any sense of helping customers out. You have to be the one to go up to the register and commence a transaction. The manager was training an individual which I understand as I was also a trainer but the goal is to not lose customers. I have worked a smoothie bar before. It does not take 10 minutes to put items in a blender, push a button, and pour said items into a cup. It was not busy. Highly disappointed. Not worth the money.

Nicely decorated with hanging plants. Almond based waffle with avocado was pretty good. I wish there was more avocado and less stringy sprouts on it. Otherwise, nice place to relax at.

Atmosphere was so cozy, food was great. Staff was a bit standoffish and pointed out how much gelato i was ordering š i know it was a lot but this place is super close to my apt and i love their gelato. Just kind of made me feel bad because the barista kept on going on and on about how much i was getting and how she's never seen someone get so much. I wanted to order a mocktail, too, but by that time I was too embarrassed to go back up there and buy one.
Edit: i went back there the next weekend with my boyfriend because im not going to deny close proximity gelato, also whoever runs their google page was very receptive to my original review. We went in there and the barista was a different person this time, but she was super welcoming and kind. Perhaps the first interaction was a miscommunication of somesort. Will be going back and trying more items on their menu!

I've been to hundreds of restaurants all around the world and I have never had such a bad experience as I have had here. The place is super cute, don't get me wrong, but there were 5 of us that ordered smoothies and kava and the employees got the order wrong 3 separate times, giving other people our order and they were giving us other people's order. I asked her what she was making and she kept saying "I don't know, I forgot what I put in it.", Throwing the smoothies away and making new smoothies over and over, just because they kept forgetting what they were making. It was so strange. In total we were here for over an hour for 5 smoothies and two kava cocktails. To top it off, they said they couldn't give me a receipt, which I need for my job, and asked me to write my email down for them to email me a receipt tomorrow. What? Overall the owner here needs to hire new employees that either know what they're doing or offer better training. Parking is free as long as you're parked under an hour but since they kept us there for so long I had to pay for parking as well. All 5 of us were late to work that day.

Colorful and delicious! The waffle combinations are some of my favorite comfort food around. Thank God for real butter and real maple syrup ššš. No fake stuff, this place is great!

My family has been wanting to go to Kava since they opened. What an amazing place with such positive energy! The staff is very knowledgeable and quick. The waffles are amazing! Iām allergic to wheat, so the staff was very cautious in making me a delicious gluten-free waffle. The coffee was perfect! I would highly recommend KavaDSM.

absolutely one of our favorite places in Des Moines. the tropical vibe upon entry makes you feel as though you escaped on vacay - and the food is always delish. mushroom lattes...waffles...of course gelato is always remarkable. always clean and my kids beg to go weekly!
