Daytime Diner has such a warm, modern and comfortable vibe. I've been to my fair share of coffee shops around Ames and I've got to say I had the best latte at Daytime, my family also agrees that the coffee they had was some of the best. Our food did take some time, but we also went after week 3 of being open. We totally understand that they'll start to get the swing of things the longer they're around. When we got our food it was warm, fresh and unbelievably delicious. I had the strawberry goat cheese toast and it was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. I can't wait to go back when I'm in Ames next. I would also love to try their wines, beers and cocktails.

I was super excited to try this place but a bit disappointed. The inside is super cute and overall a really good vibe for a coffee shop/diner. The ordering was a bit confusing. They have booths and formal looking seating but you’re supposed to order right at the front and seat yourself, which wasn’t super clear as a customer. I paid $10 for a singular piece of toast, which was delicious, but outrageously overpriced. The drinks are moderately priced and I probably would go back again but definitely not for actual food. Bathroom was also a bit dirty so I’m conflicted

Nice diner! The coffee, especially, was superb. It's a small touch, but they serve the coffee in a small Hario kettle alongside a cup for pouring. This allows you to instantly get coffee at the right temperature for drinking (as opposed to waiting for your big mug to cool down). The decor was fantastic as well. Food was OK. We initially thought the enchiladas were smothered with a New Mexico-like green chili, but the sauce wasn't too flavorful. Seems like the menu changes often, however, and there were plenty of other options that looked good.

I think this place has been open for about a month now. The inside is bright and cheery; with a postmodern kind of decor. The gal at the front counter was very friendly and extremely helpful when we decided on what to order. I would agree that the food is a bit overpriced, but the taste was amazing! Sadly, my husband and I shared a latte. I would have liked my own because it was amazing! We had a cookie and an espresso brownie; both were fabulous! I could taste butter, chocolate, spices, and deliciousness.
I had the avocado toast which had a soft-boiled egg on top. While it was a simple meal, it was on the largest piece of sourdough I've ever had. And good sour dough, too. I think they used a whole avocado on top of the toast and I also tasted lemon. I would have liked some microgreens or something fancy like that, but overall I was happy.
It's nice to see a new restaurant in West Ames, close 2 campus as well as residential neighborhoods. Do I dare take my children in for cookies and brownies? Yes! I dare!

Highly recommend the Carnitas Tacos!! I also really enjoy their breakfast tacos.

It was ok. I ordered a coffee with vanilla and was told “we don’t have that here, we like to taste our coffee”. Ok. I ordered a chocolate espresso bar that they said a batch was just coming out of the oven and was served a cold and dry one instead. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich that alright and the banana bread is good. The atmosphere was not friendly and it was overpriced and I’m never going back.

Great experience at the Daytime Diner! The owners clearly know their coffee after so many years in the business. The breakfast tacos, breakfast sandwich, and the Gouda and bacon scone were excellent. Happy to have this option in West Ames and will be there often!

The food tasted good, but the price seemed high for the quantity provided. Service, our order was brought out in two parts, first part no eating utensiles provided. They didn't seem to expect anyone would want a glass of milk or how to charge it. Staff was rude to my wife when she asked where the trash can was to dispose of one of our cups. They only had two menus for the entire restaurant which was an issue because the chalk board behind the register didn't have the full menu so you had to wait for the menu to become available before you could figure out what food they served. Maybe I will try again after they have ironed out their issues if they are not closed down by then.

My girlfriend and I were very excited about this restaurant. We’d been looking forward to going to it ever since we first heard about it coming to Ames. When we walked in, we loved the overall vibe of the place and were very excited for our meal. The barista that we placed our order with was very forgetful. We had to repeat our order to her multiple times. When we asked for a salad, she asked us “which one” and there was only one on the menu. Once we got our food and drinks we were very surprised. My espresso, that was supposed to be hot was iced. Our $12.50 salad looked like a side salad, had almost no candied nuts, goat cheese, or dressing. There were giant pieces of apple and then little diced pieces. The matcha latte was luke warm and had no sugar. When we asked for sugar, the barista didn’t know if she had sugar. Then she said she’d bring it to us, and didn’t bring it over for 5 minutes. We assumed she had to pour it out, and just forgot, but when we asked again she just handed us packets. By that time, the drink was ice cold so we just left. We enjoyed the pumpkin spice toast though. The diner has potential to be very enjoyable. Just very disappointed in the poor service and attention to detail for the price point.

It was fast, it was delicious and it was fresh. The staff was very friendly. The whole place was clean and inviting. It wasn't crowded but had a steady stream of customers. The toast and eggs were delicious. I still plan coming back.
