A Great third-wave coffee shop and roaster. My cortado was good, but the espresso may have burned a bit. My cappuccino, however, mellowed the espresso very well. Nice seating options, free secured wifi available, and pleasant music at a low volume make this a nice place to study, read, work, or chat. Very friendly and efficient barista and owners. Their coffee is available for purchase by the pound for ~$14-$16 and they offer gourmet chocolates and chocolate bars if you're looking for something sweet. Zen Cafe is easily the best coffee shop in the South Bend area.

Best coffee in town. You can get a cup while you're there or take some of their roasted beans home with you. The cafe has a really great rough-around-the-edges atmosphere that's great for meeting friends, but notsomuch for business meetings. Seems a bit questionable from the outside, but don't let that fool you.

Perfect atmosphere, great selection of teas & coffee. It's everything right with local coffee. Plus their pallets of coffee beans are a fun sight of the work in progress nature here. These folks don't just put skin in the game, they put soul in the game.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good coffee.
Edit: Upped my score. Seems to be the spot for coffee in South Bend. They also have whole-bean coffee that I have tasted outside of their shop and it is consistently good.

The cafe is next to the Pepsi facility and a bit hard to find, the exterior is unassuming and starkly different from the inside of the cafe which is a cool place to have a latte and chill. The drink are amazing and being able to watch the owners roast the beans fresh is neat.

Zen Cafe is amazing. The best vibe. The best coffee (Nicaragua pour-over is my fav). A quick warning if you haven’t been here yet: all coffee you drink after trying Zen Cafe will taste inferior. It almost keeps me up at night. Stop reading reviews and just go.

Great little local spot. The staff was really nice and helpful. I had a hot chili latte (can’t remember the name but it was great). FYI if you try calling... as of 9/16/20, they are definitely open for in-person pick up even their phone message says otherwise.

I love Zen Coffee. I have been a loyal customer for years. Recommend it to everyone. Give it as gifts. Love the stuff. Used to be prices were quite reasonable, about 12 per pound. Prices have slowly crept up, but I've kept paying... It's just that good. We moved away, but we literally stop in to buy their coffee whenever we're in town to see family. After a long weekend and drive home to South Bend, all I wanted to do was stop in for a latte. They are now at Langlab, so we stopped in. I asked for a latte with less milk. "We don't modify our recipes." Me, "I'd just like less milk, like a cortado or cappuccino, please." "We don't do those to go. We don't modify drinks." "Really? Can I please speak to the manager? Is ... here?" I have to request to speak to the manager twice. He won't modify drinks. Kindly offers me a pour over. Ok, fine, I'll take a pour over I guess. I purchase a scone, some truffles, pour-over on the house (very generous under the circumstances.) Get pour-over and ask for milk. Different girl, "we don't modify drinks." Me, "Really? You've always given me milk for my coffee before. Can I please just get some milk? I'd really like some milk for my coffee." "We don't modify drinks." Didn't even engage me. Didn't apologize. I was certainly annoyed at this point, but I tried not to be belligerent. Zen Cafe reserves the right not to modify drinks. I respect that as their choice. I was just so shocked. It was hard to contain my frustration after being so excited to be there. All I wanted was a drink I'enjoy for a 4+ hours drive back home. I'll have to stop somewhere else in the future. So, while I've always loved Zen, I will no longer be going there. I value flexible customer service and custom drinks too much. Maybe they'll change this up someday or maybe they'll continue with firm drink recipes. Who knows? I will say though, Zen Coffee is damn good coffee, and I've always loved the owners.

The best latte I've ever had; the space was perfect as well.

Haven't had much of their coffee in-store but I bought their beans for years. Unfortunately with the rebrand to Kodachrome they raised their prices 25% which puts it a bit out of reach for me.
