This place has great coffee, good pastries, and a knowledgeable and friendly staff. It's got a cool vibe too. I've heard their espresso is excellent too.

Years ago, Passionhouse used to be a cafe you could walk in and do your work in, or at least sit down and enjoy a conversation. Today you can do neither.
It has become a walk-in fridge with an unsolicited DJ blasting music in your face. It might sound like hyperbole, but it really isn't.
The music is always loud, with two speakers pointing to all parts of the coffee house, lest you think you could get softer music by just moving.
Folks I've been to a lot of coffee houses in Chicago. NONE of them blast music like Passion House does.
You know what Passion House *could* stand to do though? Turn the thermostat up. Right now, inside, it's in the mid 50 F range, while outside is in the low 30s. I mean come on. Mid 50s? For an establishment that charges $20+ for a bag of coffee beans that fail to reach the consistency that other independent coffee roasters achieve, turning up the heat to something remotely bearable shouldn't be an issue.
Oh, should we even get into the fruit flies inside the pastry display? This has been happening since the summer. Doesn't that violate some sort of health or restaurant/cafe code?
Maintaining a coffee shop is a lot of hard work. I appreciate that. But you don't need a restauranteur prodigy to understand what human comfort is.

This is my favorite Chicago coffee shop so far. It's a friendly and unpretentious place. The baristas are very knowledgeable and efficient.

The longest I ever had to wait for a drink was when a new-looking employee was instructed by a supervisor to dump my pourover and start again before it was served to me. I felt a little sorry for her, and said an extra thank you when the second attempt was ready at the bar. But the standards pay off: it was every bit as delicious and complex as those made by the more experienced baristas.

Other than the artful pourovers, my favorite thing here is the presentation they do for a double espresso. It comes on a board, with a glass of sparkling water, with some kind of small treat. I've been served everything from a traditional biscotti to a piece of Kit Kat bar.

They fill the self-serve water jug regularly, so hydration is no obstacle. It's usually just ice water (all I ask for), but on a recent Saturday, it was infused with strawberries as an added bonus. The space can be a little crowded and weekends, but it's downright peaceful on weekday afternoons. The prices, I believe, are a dollar less per item than Intelligentsia.

Wow we were there on Vaca from Texas. We got an oatmilk latte. It was so good. Fell in love with the oat milk flavor . Actually had 2 . It was so good. Came home have gone to my little coffee shop that has good fresh roasted coffee but their oat milk is not same. Went to whole foods bought 2 different kinds . Not same... please tell me how I can have that oat flavor. Honestly if Chicago wasn't 15 hrs from me I would drive there. LoL. Delicious.

One of my favorite roasters in town. They do a consistent and delicious cortado, and I love trying their experimental roasts. BOGOHO on bags Tues and Thurs.

Exceptional coffee. The baristas are doing a great job. The food is a tasty addition, too.

The music can be a tad loud, but easily worth it for the coffee.

Three words: sweet potato latte. It's better than any pumpkin drink you can find and it even comes with a fancy lil marshmallow. Its spiced to perfection

This is a pretty standard coffee shop, not bad, but nothing too special. If you are interested in a decent cup of coffee this is a good spot to try.

Ryan poured a great cup of coffee. They have WONDERFUL donuts too. Josh was very nice to all of us. He remembered us from our last visit.

I had their Latte, Best I have had yet. I really like the atmosphere and also the little cookie that came along with it was a nice touch! I will be back!
