Honestly I wanted to really like this place. Good vibes, friendly staff. It's small but the lighting is good and they make use of the space. The food and drinks just aren't very good. Way overpriced food, too. Paid $10 for a meal that didn't fill me at all and I didn't really enjoy. It's one of those places that's so trendy it forgets to put basic, crowd pleaser items on the menu.

If not for the awful, loud stress inducing music this place would be among my favorite in Chicago. The coffee was great and baristas were nice. Fast internet and big tables make a nice place to work. I had over ear headphones but they weren't enough to block out the music.

I went for extended periods of time multiple days - I think it's a consistent problem they have with the music. But the coffee is also consistently good!

Note the espresso is pretty smooth so if you want to taste it get a cortado or macchiato or something with less milk. It's a good roast!

The coffee is great and I love all the light streaming through the windows. Additional seating at the coffee bar is perfect for a solo worker and the large communal table is great for a work meeting. Gaslight is a great alternative to Intelligentsia's crowded quarters.

My favorite coffee roaster in Chicago, great beans, lightly roasted, typically the roast dates for what they have on the shelf are well under a week old. Some of the best and most memorable homemade espresso I've ever pulled was made using some of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe roasts - granted, those roasts were from winter 2013/2014 (back when I was still living in Logan Square), but I try to stop in for a visit and a bag of beans whenever I am in town. If you are looking for a good, reliable roaster in the city, I would definitely recommend giving them a try. They also have a rotating selection of food items (sandwiches, pastries, etc.), and make for a good stop when you are looking for something more filling to pair with your coffee.

Tasty coffee and quality tea and snacks. The matcha coffee cake was perfectly sweet and shareable. Decent seating options including a few far stools at the counter, large shared table, individual two seaters and a lounge area with couch.

Baristas: knowledgeable but not psyched to talk with you about coffee. Just friendly enough to be considered not snooty. But dang, they can brew coffee.
Roasts: phenomenal. The roasters are at the top of their game, consistently. The beans are the highlight of this business for sure. You get a shot or small coffee when you buy a bag (about $18/bag)
Shop: the space doesn't seem to be used effectively, and while the front is well lit, the back seems so dark and crowded, I don't ever like to stay.

More than anything else, drip coffee or the coffee of the day can indicate how good a coffeehouse really is. The one I had was really good - as winelike in taste as you'd expect from their description - and not in need of any adulteration with cream or sweetener. Prices are a tad steep, but it's an independent roaster. They've gotta make money somehow.

Gaslight Coffee is really two places in one. Sure, it feels like the green room for central casting for a hipster sitcom, laptops akimbo, and beards properly trimmed, but it is also the home of Gaslight's roasting facility. The smell of freshly roasted coffee fills the area from the street and all through cleverly decorated shop. The coffee is pretty fantastic. On my most recent visit, I had the Brazil on Fetco and found it to be A+ from first sip to last. Strongly recommended.

This is with no doubt my favorite coffeeplace in the city. They have White Peony tea, really hard to find, and the pastries are AMAZING. However, over all, I just love the atmosphere this place has and the type of people who go there, kind of hipsterish...

Really recommend it, but don't fool yourself, it gets packed really fast!

Best place to buy whole beans to take home or espresso. The espresso is some of the best in Chicago, and the drip coffee is good as well. There are no pour overs, which is odd. Nevertheless, solid coffee choice!
