Four Letter Word Coffee

Amazing beans, nice staff, artsy vibe. Visited Chicago about 3 weeks ago and FLW was the 5th stop on my coffee tour. The initial vibe/feel is “we are too cool for you” borderline pretentious, but if you shake that off and soak this place in there’s a lot of great design and art scattered around. The staff were very friendly and engaging and the beans were the best beans I bought in Chicago (I bought from 4 shops). Fruit forward, but floral with long draws of red grape juice. Burundi’s are great beans but man FWL just absolutely smashed the roast out of the park.

The pour over I got in-shop was super on point and overall experience was enjoyable. They offer an ibrik-made Turkish style coffee, which I will be back for. Well done FLW.

Really great cafe, the coffee is so good, there’s a reason you’ll find other shops selling Four Letter Word coffee. I wish they could stock more pastries because usually they’re all sold out by the time I can get there.

Cappuccino was solid, the drip coffee my friend got was pretty good too.

Coffee is great! Make sure you arrive early if you want to catch the doughnuts. It is a bit of a wait for coffee as well, so give yourself enough time to be in line, and enjoy!

Walked all the way down to FLC (for the 1st time) only to discover that they have a perfectly capable indoor dining area that's CLOSED, so customers have to stand in line, under the blazing heat & sun to order via walkup window. They had next to nothing in pastries (2 pastries that appeared to be several days old from the window), ONE employee working by himself - another employee (perhaps the manger?) came strolling in about 20 mins later and didn't have a simple coffee request that I wanted to order. What a waste of time. In pains me that a place like this is STILL in business.

But for how long?

Had a great coffee, and a great experience! This guy is working as hard as he can to keep his community caffeinated and prepared for their day! Really good coffee, and great vibes---sidewalk service for an on-the-go delight!

April 2022 Update: dining room still closed (window service only)

Knowledgeable skilled baristas and amazing coffee. What more can you ask for? Their specialty coffees are lovely and seem to be carefully selected. If you are in Chicago and like coffee, this cafe is worth a visit.
