OK, I don’t post too many reviews but when my wife & I visited her brother and sister-in-law in Bonners Ferry, they said we would be going to a “gas station” for the best fish and chips ever. We had to agree. Made from fresh cod, a small comes with 6 generous pieces, fries, coleslaw and choice of soup or salad. The cod is lightly breaded, almost a Tempura-like batter and not greasy. Absolutely fantastic! At $16, this is a great deal. The place IS in the backside of a gas station convenience store and is called the Blue Heron Café. Still early September so we were able to dine outside. Very busy with lots of plates served quickly.

I hear they have a great prime rib dinner on Saturdays but heading home so won’t be able to try it. Go and enjoy!

RV broke down on our way to Canada. Our 43rd Anniversary. Making the best of it we dined at the Blue Heron Cafe and it was wonderful! The service was great. Super friendly, the Salmon and the steak special were delicious! And the Anniversary dessert of a Brownie Sunday was sooooooooooo good! Stop here even if you don't break down!

A surprise gem of a restaurant tucked behind an otherwise average looking 76 gas station. Enjoy the wetland views of Walsh Lake over a hearty meal. Excellent breakfast burrito. If you like a gooey, savory-n-sweet combo, try the bacon jam condiment, though I personally have a more traditional palate. Friendly staff!

What you think is just another fuel stop between Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry Idaho, is a hidden gem!
The Blue Heron restaurant sits in the back of the station and overlooks a lake and green meadows.
You can get the best Prime rib or perhaps you like Fish Fry Fridays!
Dont talk to me about deserts. If you have room for any, GET IT!

A surprising gem tucked away at the back of a nice convenience store. Serving locally raised meat (Woods) and locally roasted coffee (Evans Bros) this cafe serves a traditional rural American menu with outstanding views. The food usually comes with large amounts of cheese and/or sauce, aimed at those with a mild palette. Portions are quite large and very filling, extremely mild in flavor. The huge windows look out over the Selkirk Mountains and a small lake. In summer, sit on the patio while your kids play on the large lawn and play structure. The convenience store is definitely above average with locally roasted coffee and grocery items.

The restaurant is great but the breakfast burritoes in the grab and go during the week are AWFUL. Burnt precooked potatoes, burnt can't chew bacon, hardly any cheese, no salt...just yucky. Seems like they are precooking things the day before .
Weekends are great though. Moist amd flavorful

Had the prime rib special on a Saturday night and it was fantastic. There was a half full dining hall but the wait time was minimal. Fast friendly service, great food, rustic decor, and over all I was very satisfied. I recommend the in house sauces; ranch, tartar, and sour cream (has a hint of horse radish and is excellent). It's a simple place and I will eat here again.

My dinner at the Cafe was delicious. Had the 5 hour roasted spaghetti & a house salad. My server was awesome. I'll be coming back here for sure

As a trucker, it has almost everything I need. Clean restroom, great food in the restaurant, all kinds of things to buy in the store, friendly people, and a small parking lot that's still big enough for my doubles to fit.
No showers though and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. If they had even one shower, it would be an easy 5 star place in my opinion.
Diesel is fairly cheap here too compared to your main places like Petro/TA, Loves, and Pilot/Flying J's.
Back to the restaurant, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Can either dine in or get it to go.
