What a wonderful place of refuge when we were evacuated from Hurricane Matthew. The Roadmasters Lodge was our special "bungalow" which had every thing we needed and more. Dixie McGurn, owner of Whistlin Dixie, checked on us several times a day to make sure we were okay and not in need of anything. I think we were the only place in Folkston that didn't lose power! Thank you Dixie for providing us shelter. I highly recommend this lodge!!! P.S. The grandchildren thought it was so much fun!

Whistlin Dixie, in Folkston, GA, is a wonderful little shop in a quaint little town. Dixie and her husband stock a nice supply of gifts, make a wonderful sandwich, and provide good company to anyone that comes in there. After lunch there's always ice cream or coffee, as well - it's usually the ice cream that draws my kids in there! They have also done some custom framing for me, and always done a wonderful job. If you find reason to get through Folkston, make sure you pay a visit to Whistlin Dixie!

I was on a cycle tour from Tallahassee Florida to Savannah Georgia when I sprained my knee just outside of Folkston and had to call for help. I made my way back to town and found Whistlin Dixie. I hobbled up to the door dragging my loaded down bike and wrapped up knee. Dixie opened the door and ushered me in while I explained my situation. Smiling the whole time she sat me down and made me a cup of coffee and a massive salad and wrapped a bag of ice for my knee in a cloth that she cut just for that purpose while I waited for a family member to come and rescue me from my plight. I had been there for about an hour chatting when I heard her mentioning having to do something back at her home.
I told her I could wait somewhere else if she had things she needed to do but she wouldn't hear of turning an injured traveler out on the street, even if just for an hour or two. Instead she thought for a moment then said "I tell you what, I'll help you load your bike up in my truck and we'll sit you down by the pool and you can ice your knee and read or what have you while you wait for your ride". I am not one to turn down such a kind offer and we drove down the road to her house where she set me up in a pool chair with a bag of ice and a few newspapers and magazines. I was there for about two hours and Dixie continued to check up on me, asking if I was hungry or had enough to drink. Eventually my ride came and she even helped me break down my bike and load it into the car.
I would praise Whistlin Dixie for their excellent customer service but she never asked for a penny. Truly one of the most kind people I have ever met, I'll be paying a visit next time I'm in Folkston for sure.

Went by the store yesterday to have a"soup" lunch. Given that Dixie is an accomplished chef.the soups that I had for lunch we're not good, they were SUBlIME. Dixie is an accomplished cooker of soup.

This is the number one to go to location for lunch on Railwatch Day. Excellent sandwiches, great hospitality, excellent decor, and fine restrooms.

The sugar free amaretto latte that I ordered was great. The gift shop is cute, too.
