The Market at the Clayton Cafe

We ate here while visiting for a wedding and absolutely loved it! The food was AMAZING and the entire staff was so friendly. They even have a little bakery/shopping area connected to the restaurant that we looked around as we waited. 100% you should eat here and get the fried chicken or country fried steak!

Oh my word good!! Renee was our waitress and she helped with suggestions that turned out great. We had chicken livers, fried green tomatoes, cabbage casserole with cheese biscuit & tea. All was delicious, we will make the drive back for this.

We got vanilla and strawberry frosting cupcakes on short notice for a family outing at the state park.

The cupcakes were as good as as any I have had. The frosting had real strawberry chunks in addition to the excellent vanilla cake.

I lived in Chicago when there was a cupcake tour, nothing on the tour was better than these.

Really good and will be back on our next visit

Love this place! The market has the best apple pie around. Danica is amazing! She always remembers us and has 4 quarters waiting so I can grab a paper to read with my meal at the cafe!

Great little cafe! We were seated quickly and server saw us right away. Very good service and excellent food! Fried green tomatoes are a must! Looking forward to our next visit....

This place is really neat! The café area, store area, and restaurant were all great. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and the food was tasty. I would definitely return!

Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had- and I've had lots of burgers! Also had the Reuben and fried green tomatoes, everything was incredible. If I was a local I would come here all the time! WOW burger has a fried green tomato, pimento cheese, and bacon.

A lovely combination between the cafe and market. Whether you're in a hurry or have a while to relax for gourmet home-cooking, the Cafe and Market have both. A hallmark of Clayton right on the square (can't miss the neon sign) with friendly staff and now a market with coffee, to-go food, wine/beer and a large selection of unique merchandise. Parking can be a little hard to come by on Main Street, but there are free public lots just north of Main Street and directly in front of City Hall. A must visit if you're in Clayton, but don't be surprised if there's a wait. #eatlocal

Everything was delicious. Our plate didn’t represent much color, but we had some favorites we wanted to try (and share). Upon arrival, the large plate made the portions appear small (eyes bigger than our stomachs), but they were actually perfect. We affirmed our Clean Plate Club Memberships today. I told my husband, “They’ve been serving meals since 1931...they know how much to serve.” The street parking provides a great opportunity to stroll the cute local shops. On the Saturday morning visit, there was a constant flow of diners but - with more seating in a space out of site - no one seemed to wait too long for a table. The wait staff was friendly and efficient - and took her time to explain the menu. We look forward to a future visit to try more.
