The Market at the Clayton Cafe

Stayed in Clayton on a Thursday night in July and downtown was packed. Thought we were SOL on getting dinner. To our surprise the Cafe was able to seat us. They were following all COVID precautions regarding spacing of tables, cleaning and the staff were all wearing masks. We had a specialty burger and fish which were delicious. The selection of sides was great, and the desserts - YUM. Highly recommended!

The food was good, but sometimes that’s not all of what it takes. I wish I could say the same for the service. However, it was less than appealing. We were there about 35 minutes before our order was brought out and even then, one order was missing. We had 6 in our party which was not unreasonably large and it was also a Wednesday afternoon. I never really knew who our waitress was, as we had 3 different ones. We placed a large order to go, and it was really messed up as well. Not a place I would go back to unless the staff was better trained and more apt to handle things

I normally eat here all the time, and frequently get the fried chicken, but this time was horrible. On September 27, at around 5:00 pm, I ordered the fried chicken, but it was burnt and dry. I told the waitress about it, but instead of getting a new piece, she and two other staff members blatantly rearranged it on the plate and tried to pass it off as a new piece. I was compensated for my meal and given another meat dish. I was also offered free dessert, but declined.

Came into town to get some work done on my motorcycle, and stopped here for some breakfast. The service was perfect, not pushy, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was awesome, and the cheese grits were one of the best I've had in quite a while!

Great food & good service

Great little local eatery to check out in Clayton. This restaurant has delicious eats and a very friendly staff. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an app and the BLT sandwich for the meal, both were excellent! Highly recommended!

Super cute place that serves absolutely excellent food! My wife and I visited here on our honeymoon, and we have been reccomending it to anyone who finds themselves in the small town of Clayton! We both got the Chicken and Waffles, and wow! It was some of the best tasting chicken and waffles we've ever had! Heck, now we compare all the chicken and waffles we eat to the chicken and waffles we got from there!

Great Cafe! We ate lunch there and everything was awesome! Vegetables were fresh and my oldest son had a Cuban that was one of the best I’ve tasted! Staff was very nice and service/food was fast! We will return next time in Clayton!

My daughter and family ate here last week and can't stop telling us how good the food was.
Well, today we ate there and food was great!
Service was very pleasant and fast.
I had blackeyed peas, squash casserole, cream corn, fried green tomatoes and apple walnut cake.
We will be back in a couple of days.🤗

We ate here on an impromptu stop for lunch. I got the beer battered cod. What a delicious meal! There were several items that were sold out on the menu but that just made us want to come back and earlier in the lunch hour so we could try them. We went next door after lunch where coffee and desserts were sold. The carrot cake was a party in our mouths. The waiter and coffee shop ladies were so friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I can't wait to go back.
