I've wanted to try offerings here for some time. The dark roast was smooth, piping hot and full of velvety goodness.

Would come here every once in a while since it’s close by but is quite expensive for what you get and can be acidic at times. One of the last times I ordered online and when I came in it wasn’t ready yet so I sat down. Right then someone started reading my order off the tablet and was complaining about it being complicated and how ridiculous people are with their orders now, making fun of mine on and on. She had no idea I was there. Completely impropriate behavior especially since I ordered from the online options (vanilla half caff latte with oat milk) No additional notes so it just sounded like she didn’t want to work. Wasn’t a great experience.

Everyone here is passionate about coffee and hospitality. Coffees are roasted in house. They can brew classic espresso drinks, serve quick fresh brewed coffees to go, or, if you have more time, craft exceptional brews using more eccentric methods like Chemex, French press, and siphon brewer. Food selection is expanding and evolving and includes vegan and gluten-free options.
Brewing equipment and fresh house-roasted coffees are sold as well. Staff and owners are eager to talk about coffee and share knowledge and stories about coffee.
Partnerships with local performers and artists bring vital energy to the shop especially during weekend evening hours.
Update: none of this has changed. This shop is still bringing people together around excellent coffee, food, and service. Hours have changed in the wake of a pandemic. Seamless mobile ordering through the Joe app has been added so that time indoors can be minimized when necessary. Some menu items were a casualty, but other great options have replaced them (just today I noticed a new single origin espresso option on the menu). On balance the team has kept up their standards of service and producing excellent coffees. Throughout these challenging times it's hard to see where any of these fundamentals has suffered. I don't know how they do it. Kudos!

I frequent both J. Rene Coffee locations as they are local to me. Some of the best coffee around CT. Try the cold brew, or an Oat Milk Latte. You won't be disappointed!

As a strong lover of espresso and espresso based drinks, I can solidly say that the espresso here is better than the shots I can pull at home. Excellent tasting notes, both complex and balanced.

I love this place. The food is delicious, and the coffee is absolutely amazing! The contemporary space is very clean and cozy. I ask a lot of questions about the latest food items and coffee varieties, and the staff is always patient, friendly and helpful. Great vibes!

Fantastic, beautiful shop. Amazing coffee and service. They have also expanded their food menu, which is excellent. My new “go to” spot!

The perfect coffee shop ambiance and the owner and baristas all take coffee very seriously! They made me and my friend beautiful lattes, and the chocolate and strawberry croissant was amazinggg! Can't wait to come back!
