If you were visiting Berkeley, you need to try out café Mezzo. You can get a great big bowl of delicious leafy greens mixed with your choice of poppyseed to their homemade green goddess dressing. The salad has a delicious mixture of croutons, avocado, cherry tomatoes, beans, an egg and my favorite the sprouts. It’s a beautiful and healthy masterpiece when they prepare it. You always get a side of this hearty piece of bread with your salad and it’s also used for the sandwiches.
If you really love the bread, Mezzo sells bags of bread ends for buck.
Mezzo also provides options of sandwiches as well as soups. One of my favorite things about this place as soon as it’s reopening it brought back a lot of memories for myself as well as my fellow Cal alumni. As an undergrad I still remember Mezzo was a lot smaller in size and and most of us would sit along a railing to eat our salad. It definitely is a great place to reminisce and to enjoy.

The salad was as big as my head and it was incredibly delicious. I'll definitely be stopping by again the next time I'm in town.

The fresh concept is nice but the restaurant is badly operated. At the end, the food tasted like a normal deli and was not worth the long wait.
Customers need to join the wait line, order food, stand there and wait until the food is ready, then pay for it before sit. Around 1pm on a weekday, the dinning area was mostly empty but ~20 customers were still standing in the line to wait for making orders. Although the staff were working very hard, that part was obviously the bottleneck. On average, each customer took ~5 mins to order and got the food. So if only 5 people are in front of you, it means 25mins standing wait.
Moreover, no one cleaned the tables. All tables were covered with sprouts left by previous customers. Half of the tables had leftover and used dishes. There was no sign to guide customers to clean the dishes by themselves or not and where. Some used napkins were on the floor.
The food was just fine, nothing special.

love this place! a perfect go to spot when you're looking for something to munch on that isn't too much fuss. (highly recommend the chef salad) but be prepared for a long line! unless you've got meg, who will make sure you're taken care of quickly. love her bright and happy attitude, i imagine it can be tough when dealing with so many customers each day. thank you meg! please stop in on your next lunch break, you won't regret it!

Such a great place to grab a great lunch and chill out in the back patio.

Food: Amazing sandwiches and salads. Huge portions.
Location: Very central to everything around campus. A couple of blocks from Sather Gate.
Ambiance: Clean, comfortable with lots of sunlight. Indoor and patio seating all nicely decorated.
Price: Very reasonable considering the portions. My family of 5 ate for $75.

Great coffee, but a note to the cafe - the music is unpleasantly loud, please turn it down (there is enough people here to create a natural bustle anyway)

Such great food and variety of sandwiches. The sandwiches are large with thick delicious breads. Consider getting a half sandwich with a salad. Yummy kambucha and aguas frescas.

Amazing place for lunch. The place has a great vibe. All food were fresh. We ordered veggie salad and tofu sandwich. Both were great. The place is great to meet someone over lunch

Amazing sandwiches, but definitely too much to eat in one seating.
