The location is pretty good and the building is unbelievably cute. I didn't do my research so I didn't expect to need reservations or that there would be a fee to meet the cats. Honestly I expected it to be more like the cat bookstore I used to go to in Seattle, where the cats were just there alongside the books. The 16 oz latte was very weak (I thought it was just steamed milk initially). Ultimately I want this place to do well so I'm giving it 5 stars but they need to up their game a bit.

Cute cats, great atmosphere. One of a kind cat cafe. Come sip some coffee and play with cats. Cats ranging from 9 months to 19 years! Lots of toys to interact with cats. Binder of cat photos that are available for adoption. Reservations are $10/hr. You can order a drink on top of reservation for $2.75. Subtracted one star for quality of drink. Coffee could be a bit stronger.

Great addition to Birmingham!! Gatos and Beans recently opened in Avondale and it is fantastic!! The cats are are obviously the stars but everything there is great - from it's quirky and delightful decor, the friendly and outgoing owners, the purrchandise room of gift items featuring felines, to the coffee bar that offers basic drinks that are included with your entry to the cat room or upgraded drinks for a small fee. And it's also important to note that the cats are available for adoption in cooperation with Kitty Kat Haven. We took the whole family and had a great time. I highly recommend that you make reservations (especially on weekends) as the number of people who can visit the cats at one time is limited.

Cute little place. I didn’t realize you had to make reservations by the hour, so call ahead. $10 per person which includes an hour in the cat room (about 6-10 cats) and 1 coffee/soda/hot chocolate. The building was nicely decorated, as well. I hope the cats start getting adopted soon!

This is a DREAM come true for my Grand Daughter Chloe!!! She loves cats and will own many when she grows up!! Probably would have stayed all day if she could have!! The prices are a little steep, but for the SMILE ON HER FACE, I would have paid 10x that!!! The hot cocoa was a great treat as well!!!

Cool place to go if you want to hang out with cats. I love the entire idea behind the place, I think it's awesome. I would recommend going there for getting cat loving. Coffee was terrible though, if you want to drink coffee and pet cats, bring your own coffee.

Definitely not five stars.
They are rude. Made me buy a drink just to see some cats. That we didn’t even get to look at because they were to concern about other things. Tried to make put a mask on a one year old because another family was cautious about COVID. They treated the white guests lovely but my family was trash. We left really because the guy SNATCH a teddy bear from my me,that my one year daughter had earlier.
Just trying to find a cat for my daughter!
Do NOT RECOMMEND!

Love the intention of Gatos and Beans. A unique experience. loved the cats and the people were nice. My only issue was the coffee tasted like it was mostly water or instant coffee. With a title of Gatos and **Beans** .. I feel like the coffee would be important.

I should’ve known this was a terrible place when I called and asked about parking and they told me to “park between the lines”. I still took my kids there and they fell in love with one of the cats. I asked about adopting the cat and was aggressively told “you can’t just come in here and adopt a cat” and then was questioned if I was capable of having a pet (I went there with 2 kids!!!). I almost cried the way I was talked to. I had to break the kids hearts then we just left. Terrible, terrible place. They may love cats but they have absolutely no respect for human life!!

I’ve never been to a cat cafe where you had to pay to spend time with the cats. The employee told us that the price was $10 per hour to see the cats. Not even 5 min later, the employee tells the next family that it was $11 to see the cats. The coffee was decent, but not worth the price.
