La Prima

Perfect little cafe to stop in at while on a cross state drive. Food was delicious. Staff was the most friendly. It’s worth grabbing a pastry for the road even if you’re not hungry.

Extremely polite and wonderful employees. Everyone makes you feel like you are family. Great atmosphere and excellent food, can't go wrong with take out, staying, with or without kids.

La Prima is a top notch Italian deli that serves up first rate sandwiches and pulls a serious espresso in downtown Wausau. This kitschy deli with an eclectic menu offers up wide variety of cold and cold sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. Their Italian Egg Sandwich (made with frittata, ham or bacon and mild cheddar) served on a freshly baked, buttery croissant kicks some serious ass. The use of a frittata instead of the usual fried egg is an inspired choice, and the thick cut bacon piled on the sammie will put you in a happy place, guaranteed. In addition to using high quality ingredients, the freshly baked croissant is a difference maker for this sandwich. It is everything you want with a croissant, a lightly crunchy exterior and a wonderfully flakey, buttery interior.

In addition to feathery light croissants, La Prima's bakery staff exhibits a deft touch other pastries as well (Danishes, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, etc.) that offer superb texture and flavor without crushing your pocketbook.

La Prima also serves up the standard coffee and espresso beverages using beans from local artisan roaster Condor Coffee, all expertly prepared.

If I have an issue with La Prima, it would be with the pace of preparation. Because the food is made to order, wait times for your order can be long, especially if the restaurant is busy.

If you are looking for a primo lunch spot in downtown Wausau and have time to enjoy a leisurely paced meal, La Prima needs to be at the top of your list.

This place used to survive on the off campus lunch crowd from Wausau east (the old building). Since then its transformed itself into a coffee shop but maintained the menu that it used to have. Overall its one of the better places to go in town for an informal lunch or a place to read and use wifi.

Had lunch on 11/4.They had beef short ribs as a frzn entree,so i ordered that. W/O tip-$17.77. Beef ribs are normally fall off the bone, It came with with 2 small pieces of beef-1 1/2" x3'.One was 90% fat and both were chewy. Also came with a couple mushrooms and a little au juice(which was good).I was starving so I ate it.No veg,no roll,no nothing.I told the waiter it was chewy and one 90% fat.He offered to put it back in the oven.He walked back into the kitchen,but came out and said nothing more. As I was leaving I told him it was the worst "beef ribs" I'd ever had and the price seemed over the top.He just looked at me. I was very respectful to the waiter,he didn't cook it or set the price,but could have offered me a sandwich or something. Very disappointed.....Just talked to the owner. She apologized they got some bad beef...I'll eat there again...

Absolutely one of my favorite lunch spots in Wausau. Everything I've eaten is delicious. Stellar coffee and baked goods.

I came here and ordered a panzanella salad, which, is a salad with soaked bread and tomatos. Instead I got a lettuce salad with olives, pepperoni, pepperonchinis, red onions, and little mozzerella balls. My family members were impressed with their own plates, but I am disappointed with the restaurant's descriptive of this salad. If possible please change this soon, La Prima.

Great place to get some food and I do love their croissants as well. Great job La Prima keep doing what you do!
