Hidden gem in Charleston! The service was really good, the pastries and tea sandwiches were extremely fresh and delicious. We had the Darjeeling tea and house chai. Both were really good. Loved the soft gingerbread cookies. We will definitely be back :)

We've gotten several of the tea trays offered from here on special occasions and holidays, and they've always been great combinations of items, all well made. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, and there are plenty of options for fresh made tea.

This is a must-visit hidden gem in town. We were just visiting Charleston for the first time and we stumbled upon this place because we wanted to try something local. We came in the afternoon for some tea close to the closing time, and not only Russ went out of his way to make us some delicious tea (Dorian grey, earl grey green tea and ginger peach tea), he also invited us back the next day to try some of his new collection, the legendary Indonesian Kopi Luwak (aka civet coffee). First I was hesitant to say yes because I know how expensive those beans go for and I’m a graduate student on loans, but Russ said he doesn’t believe in charging for an arm or a leg for people to experience the aroma and complexity of this legendary brew, which I respected from the depth of my heart. We came back the next day, not only he fixed us some Kopi Luwak, he also made us some delicious blue mountain coffee as a comparison to civet coffee. I’m no expert in coffee, but even I could tell that civet coffee had the layers of complexity of aroma that the premium blue mountain didn’t have. Russ was so friendly and knowledgeable, I mean this is the dude with the caffeine nomenclature tattooed on him, how can you not trust his taste buds for coffee? He also made us some white coffee shots that was intriguing, and his lovely wife made us some “liquid tiramisu” with their signature orange cardamom cake. Everything was so affordable and delicious, and most importantly, the overall experience of a tea house was in its best form made possible by Russ and Sasha.

This is a very special place! Russ and Sasha were delightful hosts and the tea and scones were amazing! We had an extra special treat with the Sumiyaki coffee from Japan made table side. It is a must have!

Each sandwich and scone was prepared and flavored intentionally and deliciously. So delicious I didn’t get a single photo! Russ and Sasha were warm and accommodating hosts, I would welcome them into my home anytime. I will definitely be going back to Appalachian Tea to visit them, as well as another cup of the London Ripper. Thank both of you so much!!!

This place is a unique gem. The hosts are dedicated to their business with a selection of rare teas and coffees that wouldn't be out of place at the Ritz. We tasted a rare coffee and I indulged in the grilled cheese and shortbread cookie which were delicious. This is a destination for friends, couples or colleagues to meet for a treat. I found the place in a google search for somewhere to meet a friend and was blown away and totally not expecting it. Be prepared for a warm welcome and to learn a thing or two about tea.

1st class quality teas! After brewing, the tea leaves are actually seen to be leaves. Not irregular fragments of leaves and stems, even powder seen with the usual commercial teas, even such a good brand as Twinings. The brownie was excellent, too!

Not a great experience for my husband and I. The atmosphere was really weird. I felt very on edge the whole time we were there. Tea was just okay. The cookies looked like my 7 year old made them. They had no tea tray/high tea services...apparently they only have that once a month?
Maybe it's better on the weekend, but during the week is a no go.

I love tea and I’m so excited that we finally have a place where you can get it freshly brewed from tea leaves.
There are many flavors, white, green,a assortment of others and you can even smell them before you order.
This unique business is in a old charleston home that has been slightly renovated and reminds
me of my great grandmothers house.
There is a downstairs with tables and chairs,a upstairs that has
A library with sitting room and you can choose either place to have your tea.
I chose a green tea and a scone and both were delicious.
What a wonderful addition to Charleston.

Such a lovely place to spend an afternoon with friends! We enjoyed drinking tea and playing board games. The Appalachian tea room had a large selection of different teas and made-from-scratch pastries. Also, if you need a quiet place to read or do work, they've got a nice upstairs sitting area with a large picture window. Look forward to coming back!
