04JAN22 ~ I had a wonderful dining experience with my oldest brother, this is his favorite 'go to' restaurant. This hidden gem in the Kempsville area is locally & family owned. It has a friendly, non-pretentious atmosphere. We went there for the Tuesday night 'Shrimp Special'. It was great. The shrimp were plentiful, large, tasty, and perfectly cooked. It comes with melted butter for dipping & cocktail sauce. The hush puppies & Cole slaw were also excellent. Our waitress, Stefanie, was everything I would want in a waitress. She was genuinely friendly with a warm smile, she was articulate/well spoken, helpful, and came by at just the right times, not too much & not too little. The prices were exceptionally reasonable. Whenever I go to visit my family in Virginia Beach we always eat there at least once per visit.

This might be a neighborhood bar and grill but the food is great! Fresh seafood that won't break the bank like the Tuna bites is our favorite! From tacos to fresh-cut fries there is definitely something for everyone here. They are also open for breakfast on the weekend. Definitely one to try if your in the area.

We have simply never ordered a bad meal from here. Recently, we moved in around the corner from this gem ... and we are glad we did. We keep coming back and the meals are consistently delicious. Honestly the best steamed shrimp that I've had in Hampton roads (and I've been to all of the oceanfront "locals favorites"). The club and rueben are incredible too.

Good food..local bar atmosphere, everyone is very welcoming. Chef is very good, he cooks everything as ordered, solo...so if it's busy you'll have a wait. Most people are having cocktails,so you won't notice the wait.

For me, this is more a bar than a family restaurant. The food and service were good.
While there, they turned the music on, which was too loud for my taste.

We tried the new sub The Johnny Y~
It was Philly beef steak, grilled O's, mozzarella, marinara & pepperoni on a garlic toasted roll.
It was so good, we loved them!đź’—
Just the right amount of everything!
I got mine without the onions.
(We would have loved more buttery garlic on the inside of the bread, but that is a personal preference)
Hubbys Tatar Tots were cooked perfect.
His chili mac n cheese was good.
The regular Mac n cheese was a little dry. Once I added milk, extra cheese & pepper it was good to go.
Would definitely order the sub again!💖🥖

If I can give this no stars I would we went in the morning to have breakfast. We sat down and took the worker 5 mins to ask what we wanted to drink. Then took another 10 mins to even receive our drink while the employee was stuffing her face and mingling with other people. Another couple came in 5 min afterwards and received there drink in less then 2 min. Mind you we order water and orange juice. While we are still waiting the employee in the green hoodie made contact with us multiple time and yet decided to come take out order.
We decided to leave and not continue to wait so we can order and probably won't receive our food for another long waiting period. This is not a place if you are colored in skin you will not be Their priority. Do not go here.

Food was delicious. Grits was little bland but still good. The light brown haired waitress she was not nice like she has hangover. But everyone else was nice.

It’s a Bar with Cafe in the name. After seeing all of the high ratings on Google and Yelp, a friend and I ventured over to Kempsville to check it out. The high ratings might have been posted by intoxicated guests. I think, maybe. It’s pretty much a dive bar atmosphere with regulars already on their second or third drink by noon. They were going outside outside frequently to smoke. Some lighting up before walking out. Everyone was very friendly - from the owner to the bartender/server and the customers. They seem to really enjoy each other and have a lot of fun. There were photos of annual Salt Water Charter Boat fishing trips with the whole crew. For people who are looking for a hang out, this could be it. Just not for my friend and me.(non-drinkers). The server, who was taking care of everyone was very sweet, she asked our names and remembered them! She was also cleaning when she wasn’t taking care of the customers. The establishment looks old inside but was very clean.
Food wise: The lumpia was very good. And the appetizer serving size was substantial. The server said it was “frozen, boxed stuff.” After my review, the owner responded and said the lumpia is from Gloria’s bakery. Gloria’s bakery is a local Filipino Bakery with house made lumpia. Unfortunately, We were not impressed with the rest of the food. $40 w tea and coke. Just couldn’t eat it. My Reuben tasted like it was made with cheap packaged corned beef and imitation Swiss slices. The cheese cooled and became like plastic. The bread was not buttered and grilled or toasted and the bottom of the sandwich was wet and soggy. My friend said the blue cheese on her burger was strong and overpowered the other flavors, and this is a women who loves blue cheese. Her onion rings, fresh from a package and fried, were too hard to eat. My sandwich came with a side salad which I asked to be placed in a takeout container since the sandwich and salad were too much food for me after already munching on the lumpia. I tried to eat the salad later but the diced tomatoes tasted spoiled. I picked them off and ate the greens.

I feel I was really undersold and over delivered on the Bluemont Black N Blue Burger with fries, so let's get started. Simple trifold menu with your go-to items not missing beat I settled on an old favorite and boy I was in for a ride. Came to by table in your standard mom and pop basket with burger warmly nestled beside a perfect golden brown french fries that will not only ASMC crunch for feels into oblivion, but it also has the follow through with every bite not getting soggy from steam or overly greasy. Back on track to the thick delicious circumference of meat before me I take my first bite and was amazed on the levels of juicy tender morsels hitting my pallet. The blue cheese really shined through without overpowering the rest of the ingredients, I really have to hand it to the cook...best burger I've had in a while, so thank you. You'd be missing out if you didn't wipe up the falling juices on your fries as well, I found myself eating the whole thing and was fully satisfied.
