Riverbend Roastery

Edit (11/23/2021): New owners and new coffee! Much better beans from my first visit back and I'm hoping it's a trend that continues. Would love to see some more description on washing station/tasting notes rather than a country of origin. Excited to have good coffee in The Hill!

This is one of those places that is very 'fine'. It definitely feels like a place opened by an uninspired roaster and clueless owner(s). The food is fine and the environment is fine. The location is good since Church Hill doesn't have another coffee roaster (though there is good coffee to be found elsewhere nearby). The prices are...fine. The customer service is actually really good.
What isn't fine is the coffee. It's...bad. These beans are subprime. You're basically getting Starbucks middle-of-the-road coffee beans for a price that can't justify it. I've not known any other Richmond Roastery to have so little knowledge behind where/when/how their beans are sourced. A roastery charging these prices should be proud of the product they're sourcing and have these details on full display (as seen at every other roastery in the city). The roasting is definitely not detail-oriented as consistency is way off and the roastery heavily leans on flavorings to sell their product to other Church Hill residents.
I'm hoping the company can further elevate their product or at least match the pricing of what's currently available with what they're selling.

Coffee and food both delicious. Staff are excellent. Not a whole lot of seating availability, but nice atmosphere inside.

The staff here is polite enough until you order something on the menu they don’t want to make. Like I get working at a coffee shop can be arduous at times, but please refrain from showing active disdain to the customer when they order something you find difficult to make.

So if you come here, be sure to order something real simple, because that’s all they can handle.

Great local coffee shop with friendly staff. I appreciate that they open at 6:30 because not all places are open that early when I'm on my way to work. The light roast costa rican is my go to, and the sausage on their breakfast sandwiches has just the right amount of flavor and spiciness to it.

Absolutely FANTASTIC iced tea. Strong and not watered down and now I'll be broke from going to get iced tea several times a week :-) Their savory scones are also big and moist and delicious. Look forward to trying their other offerings!

Absolutely delicious and the staff was so friendly. I had a Veg Head sandwich that was fantastic and the lattes I ordered were amazing.

I had been coming here for years. Always got the same thing. Sesame bagel with cream cheese, Chai tea latte, and a banana. Ever since the new management took over, they only have plain Bagels and no bananas. Will only be back to say hi to Felicia.

I love this place. The coffee is fantastic, they will make you blends of freshly roasted beans to your specifications, and the service is great.
