TL;DR: high quality delicious coffee, great vibe, fantastic service.
I’m surprised I didn’t find this place sooner. It’s in the cut so you have to look for it, but man is it worth it. I got a latte with almond milk, and it was incredibly smooth and creamy. The taste of the espresso really shined through and was complemented by the other flavors. They even have a unique, house made flavor — hickory. It’s an unexpected sweet, smokiness that adds to the complexity of the latte, so I’d recommend giving it a try!
The staff is incredibly friendly and chill, and the vibe is perfect for a coffee shop. Dimly lit, wood accents, and happens to be in the same area as a co-working space.
Overall, I highly recommend and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem 💎

I was perplexed at first at how incognito the shop is. No outside signs (except on the door) and almost thought it was only a supply-side roaster. It’s pretty bare bones inside, but interesting how it’s connected to other small businesses. As to the drink I ordered. I will admit that initially I didn’t like my chai oatmilk latte as to compared that same drink at other coffee shops . However, it grew on me. I can’t say exactly what the difference was — maybe the espresso? Or maybe less sweetener? I had the sense that this was more authentic than the usual overly sweetened versions of chai latte. In the end, I’ll give this shop five stars, but do recommend more obvious signage!

Easy best coffee in CVL pick with great and friendly staff.
My only gripe is the lack of inside seating. Psych!! Also that every time I sit in one of their metal chairs and lean back, i momentarily feel like I’m going to fall backwards. Y’all know that feeling of fear?

The best coffee I've had in Charlottesville. El Jefe is my favorite at the moment. And so fresh! The last bag of beans I bought here had been roasted only days before.

I got a chai latte but was thrown off by an odd, extremely bitter aftertaste that it had. I then got a plain cold brew after and that was much better. The baristas were friendly and seemed to know most of the people in the shop. Wifi worked well too.

Good spot, inside and outside seating. Convenient to Ix Art Park and shops. I was there early on a Saturday as the Ix Market was firing up, very good coffee and very good service from the friendly, lovely batista I dealt with. Highly recommend....

Excellent Cortado and Great pour over, this is a real coffee spot. Appreciate the baristas discussing the coffee options with us and showing us what they have to offer.

True 3rd wave coffee in Charlottesville. Hidden gem. Worth finding. Excellent cappuccino,

I came here specifically for an oat chai latte and was not disappointed. They use Prana Chai (which is new to me) and is delicious. Surprisingly there is a saltiness to it that I’m ok with - it’s kind of a neat twist.
I recommend checking them out.

Very well made drinks and knowledgeable baristas. Limited seating inside does not have power outlets readily accessible (I see this as a positive).
