Delicious food, attentive service, a most responsive staff. . . A great variety of items to buy . . . As well as a welcoming, comfortable, pleasant place to meet friends for a light meal or a treat. What else could anyone ask for ? Kudos - to the new owners and to the Friends of Algiers Village !

I visit this wonderful store very frequently-- it doesn't help that they carry the doughnuts I like, the beer and wine I like, and the prepared food gets me points when I bring it home. Which happens a lot too.
Great vibes too.

I've literally been coming to the GCS since I was three years old, and that was almost forty years ago. I live out of state now, but wanted to make sure I came back to my hometown and visited the GCS while I was in the area, because of all the new renovations and fabulous ownership. They new layout inside looks great and is very welcoming. I can still remember what it looked like before, and they did a great job keeping it looking authentic while making sure it was updated for a modern feel. The seating area in the café is very clean and relaxing, and if I had time, I would've ordered a sandwich and coffee. I like that they sell authentic maple products, with the syrup coming from the Franklin farm in Guilford. Granted, some of the maple products come from out of state, but as long as it's authentic and not imitation, then I can let that one slide. Owners are super friendly and talkative and love to hear about the ol' days of the GCS and in the "mud room" as you walk in, there are many pictures of how the building used to look when it was just a basic stopping point for the horse and carriage.
