Best Latte in the city, simple coffee done very well!

Great coffee shop in East! They sell Onyx Coffee so you know it's good!!

Sandwiches are great! Service was slow and espresso and coffees were more acidic for my liking. It has a great overall environment, and I'd still gladly go there for a Sunday work/prep day. If you're like me and prefer darker, smokier coffee and espresso, this might not be your preferred coffee joint. +3 stars for the food quality and environment. -2 for the coffee quality and wait time.

Coffee going steadily downhill, service is rude and obstinate. Used to recommend this place to everybody, esp people travelling from overseas. Won’t be any longer - spend your money at one of the various better options in town.

Ugandan pour over is really smooth. Regional roasters. Tried an impressive savory muffin. Pretty great start from the new team. Place looks and feels great.

Had the Kronos here. Amazing coffee blended drink. Onyx coffee layered on tonic with a citrus after taste. Great concept!

Good coffee even better atmosphere. A little $ but what isn’t these days

When I first happened upon Retrograde it was a cold (frigid) (biting) January afternoon. super grey. I typed it in on a whim mainly because it was Mercury Retrograde and it felt serendipitous in the exploration of the city. I saw it and it felt like this beacon in the middle of a neighborhood that is wanting love and that is what it is, the love of a good solid neighborhood. A community oriented neighborhood with Retrograde as its beaconess. When I walked up the windows in perfect form were fogged so it looked like I was happening upon this world away from worlds with its own set of ideas and its safe and inviting warmth where you could take a minute and sit in its magic. That is what I felt there. I ordered a tea and was given the sweetest little wooden tray that I would only get in a pinterest ad for the luxury bath dream of my next century ideas. My sister and I have always liked to check out the various details of places and when we get to the bathroom that is when you can tell how thorough for Retrograde the bathroom is the peak of design it's got gold flecked floors and the appearance matches the rest of the intentional space that you just want to spend your Saturday doing crossword puzzles and talking to your friends about your whole life. Of the times I went in there so far I heard the music that was so prime and I got stuff done because it felt safe. Try Retrograde, it's a good one.

Love this place! It's one of my favorite coffee shops in Nashville.
They've got a killer coffee program and are always changing up the coffees featured for pour overs which allows you to experience different coffee and flavors from different regions.
The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the constantly changing offering.
I've been here quite a few times but on the most recent visit I spent about half the day here getting some work done and so I got to experience a fair amount of the menu. [Pro Tip: If you're going to hang out for multiple hours at a coffee shop then you should be buying things and supporting the business ;) ]
In addition to a pour over and espresso (coffee staples), I ventured out into the food menu. It was a simple offering but super tasty. We got the a grilled cheese (pick two cheeses) and went with goat and cheddar. It was oozing with cheese when it hit the plate and had a wonderful crispy crunch to the rye bread, just the way I like it.
Since we were here into the afternoon we got a chance to try some of the beer and cider options too. It was a short list of drafts and cans that were nicely curated.
Retrograde is "firing on all cylinders". Head over and experience it for yourself.

Great coffee and great service. Really detail-oriented and certainly knowledgeable baristas. I was surprised and excited to see them serving Onyx Coffee Lab coffees. Gorgeous spot with a really nice outdoor seating area ( covered, so it's not too hot).
Food here was especially good, too. Definitely worth your time if you like a more upscale, but casual coffee experience.
