It's mostly locals who visit this friendly spot at downtown's edge. If you can get past the guava tarts, sugar cakes and dum bread (flour sweetened with coconut and baked in a 'dum' oven), then pans of okra, fish stew, fungi (semihard cornmeal pudding) and more island dishes await. Point to your choice, and servers will heap it into a styrofoam clamshell.

Woah, walking into Daylight Bakery and Diamond Barrel for breakfast, is kind of like being back in Hawaii. You can order spam, rice, and scrambled eggs for breakfast!

I'm still trying to figure out the prices here, nothing is posted and the counter ladies, add it all up in their heads, but I've concluded a little goes a long way. We once ordered 2 dumb bread loaves, 2 coconut drop scones, 2 oatmeal raisin cookies, a guava tart pastry, pineapple tart pastry, large coffee, large tea, fried fish rice, sausages, and eggs, and it came out to $22. That's a lot of food!

This place only lost a star for the coffee. Coffee makes my brain turn on. Unfortunately (the sweet ladies at the counter admitted that they just pour water into the coffee dispensors to make more), the coffee isn't strong enough to make me into a decent morning human being. Something to keep in mind if you are going to have breakfast here.
No the hot tea isn't caffenated I think it's a local "bush tea" with lemongrass. If you're feeling under the weather definitely have some.

If stopping in USVI once try the dumb bread. What is dumb bread you ask and why is it dumb? Well its flour sweetened with coconut shreds or sugar. Back in the day it was cooked via Dutch oven which was called a "dum".

I'm a savory person and I don't like my pastries too sweet. Daylights tarts, cookies, and scones are subtlety sweet which tricks my savory brain into wanting more! Writing this review makes me want to get a guava tart right now, they are drool worthy! The hot breakfast and lunch items while they are delicious are calorie packed fatty. Sausages, bacon, fried corned beef and salt fish are all good. The only dish I didn't care for was the fried fish rice, its just me though, the hubby and fur baby thought it was tasty.

This is a pay at the counter, then dine in or take out kind of place, although most patrons prefer take out. Parking is a cinch, you have to park on the street out front, and there are always spots, but so long as half of your car is within the white line you're golden.

Overall a great place to get your daily carb fix!

Consistently excellent Caribbean food; few tourists seem to know about the Diamond Barrel. They have no idea what they’re missing!
