I intended to stop by for coffee and a pastry. The pastry rack was empty. “Are you out of pastries?” “Yes.” (They had a jar of dog treats, but I wasn’t so inclined). “I’ll just have a small coffee.” “Sorry, we don’t have any drip coffee. Will an Americano do?” “I guess so.” Americano isn’t my favorite, but it’s okay in a pinch. Not this one. $4 for a cup of brown boiled water. Two sips, and then into the nearest trash bin. And no, it was not approaching closing time. I walked a couple of blocks and got great coffee with a delicious pastry, delivered with great customer service at another shop.

Great ingredients but very poorly executed.
The good: Super stylish cafe complete with La Marzocco machine and Springbok beans. Central location just off King Street. Light and bright space with seating.
The bad: flies flying on and around the pastries in small glass pastry case on the counter.
Milk so poorly/ badly frothed that by the time you sit down you have half a cup of coffee.
I would have given it 3* but deducted 1* for the flies on the food :-(

Let me tell you a quick (sorta) tale about how this tiny coffee shop has in rapid fashion became my go to spot for the entirety of the Charleston and surrounding areas. Upon my first visit and ever since then Harper and Jessica have gone well above and beyond to make every experience not only amazing but also nailing the most crucial aspect, consistency. This seemingly simple detail can make or break any repeat experience. These ladies are the pinnacle of it. Every time, no matter how busy, slow, frazzled, understaffed or overworked they may be.
Do yourself a favor, and just try it. You won’t be disappointed.

Cute and modern coffee shop. I like he decor and pastries but coffee is more like a Starbucks, so not special.
There is street parking close by but not right in front of it.

Had a cortado and the rosemary rise latte and both were incredible. Small interior space but it's clean and the decor is pleasant. If you're not there during the rush sit at the bar counter and watch all the tourists stroll by.

I am a Starbucks only type of gal but I tried this local shop while on vacation and OMG it was amazing! Friendly staff and amazing coffee!! Must try!

The drink tastes amazing but I was disappointed that my cup wasn’t filled all the way. Outside of that the place is great.

Delicious flat white and adorable little shop. Wanted to stay longer to enjoy the vibe!

My coworkers and I frequent The Rise 6 days a week, sometimes more than once a day. The ladies and gentlemen working here always give us great service and great conversation. I think it’s the best coffee downtown. Also fantastic pastries in the morning.
