Empire Tea & Coffee

We arrived at Empire this morning. Placed our order and walked to side to wait for items. Girl came to us 10 minutes later system down need card again. We give her card it goes through gives receipt. Twenty minutes later we ask about order and said you did not ask our name she said oh it’s fine. Fifteen minutes later we ask again about order to another girl. What’s the name? She didn’t ask us our name. Comes back says oh system was down and original girl says no no it went through. I said 40 minutes waiting for an order? She said we can cancel and credit your acct. I said yes. The most unorganized place. There were at least 5 employees working and 40 minutes still no coffee? Maybe if they would focus on orders and stop laughing, talking and screaming out the orders would be done in a timely fashion. There was a young man next to us. He walked up and said I’ve been here 30 minutes for an iced coffee. Ridiculous. And they could care less. No apologies etc. careless unorganized bunch of workers. I really hope the owner reads this review. Go elsewhere.

Coffee is okay but not worth the price.
Bathroom wasn't great like a gas station.

Overall meh. Have had better and nicer for cheaper.

At least it was warm.

Voting five stars because it's a large space indoors, and you can get a variety of snacks along with a full coffee menu. Also a ton of tea options!

I liked how the baristas used Alexa for keeping track of steeping time. Not the easiest to park here (newport is pretty busy and street parking was competitive) but this part of newport is extremely walkable.

I love this as a local coffee shop. I've taken card and board games here with friends to play. There's a lot of space, the staff are always nice, and the food is good.

They serve loose-leaf tea! The options for loose tea are VERY limited in Rhode Island, and I'm glad to have Empire. The teas are good for the price. Interestingly, they brew it behind the counter, so I'm not sure what temperature or steep time they're following for any given tea. It's not premium quality (go to Boston), but I enjoy it.

Stopped in for a nice hot cup of coffee. Friendly staff, nice place to sit and relax, and coffee tastes great! Definite recommend.

It's a great place for visitors and locals alike, in the tradition of old-school and independent coffee shops, there is plenty of leather and open space to spread out. WIFI it's decent, even though access is a little convoluted. Coffee is delicious, with a rotating selection of different options. This is my go-to while I am in town for coffee, tea, study, and chill.

Apparently not all coffee is the same as proven to me by visiting Empire Tea & Coffee. It was honestly the best cafe mocha I've ever had. Well balanced flavor of roast and mocha. The young ladies who work there are an amazing group of employees. The atmosphere is what Starbucks should strive for. Communal yet private. The best coffee in Newport, RI hands down.

I was fortunate to enjoy a Latte & Muffin @Empire for the first time yesterday... playing with a great Dalmatian... enjoying the wifi & staying warm... all staff was very kind & Sage, I recall, helped me & was absolutely certain all her customers & coworkers were well-treated. We need more people & places like this spot.

Great seating with plenty of outlets. There is an excellent variety of drinks and some good food to choose from as well. I like the vibe, the staff is friendly and I will definitely come back next time I’m in the area.

While in Newport for the weekend I was looking for a nice cafe to grab a coffee and quick bite. Empire Tea & Coffee served delicious pastries and the perfect warm coffee after cool walk around newport.
