1st class quality teas! After brewing, the tea leaves are actually seen to be leaves. Not irregular fragments of leaves and stems, even powder seen with the usual commercial teas, even such a good brand as Twinings. The brownie was excellent, too!
Not a great experience for my husband and I. The atmosphere was really weird. I felt very on edge the whole time we were there. Tea was just okay. The cookies looked like my 7 year old made them. They had no tea tray/high tea services...apparently they only have that once a month? Maybe it's better on the weekend, but during the week is a no go.
Wonderful little tea shop; personally curated teas, various sitting rooms for reading chatting and resting.
Best coffee I've ever had.
This place is a unique gem. The hosts are dedicated to their business with a selection of rare teas and coffees that wouldn't be out of place at the Ritz. We tasted a rare coffee and I indulged in the grilled cheese and shortbread cookie which were delicious. This is a destination for friends, couples or colleagues to meet for a treat. I found the place in a google search for somewhere to meet a friend and was blown away and totally not expecting it. Be prepared for a warm welcome and to learn a thing or two about tea.
Me and my mom stopped here for my birthday and had an amazing time, we ordered the high tea tray, I can't remember the tea we had in the half pot but it was really good, and I got the civet coffee. everything was great and the service was amazing can't wait to go back.
Hidden gem in Charleston! The service was really good, the pastries and tea sandwiches were extremely fresh and delicious. We had the Darjeeling tea and house chai. Both were really good. Loved the soft gingerbread cookies. We will definitely be back :)
Beautiful! Great atmosphere and great tea, well worth it :)
Great place to stop and have a relaxing cup of tea. Definitely stop by!
Such a wonderful addition to Elk City and Charleston, WV as a whole!! Great selection of teas and the treats to eat are absolutely fantastic!! Original flavors that are a true experience! Love the ambience & the proprietors!!❤❤ The tea trays are always so fun, and so scrumptious. They continue to be very conscientious about health safety.
This place is absolutely worth stoping at! As a coffee and tea fanatic, this place goes above and beyond in every way! The tea and coffee were both amazing and the owners are very well read on the products that they serve. Everywhere you looked like here were antiques and tea sets; they even have an office space for working and a library! I absolutely recommend stopping here! The owners are extremely friendly and are wonderful to talk to! This is by far the BEST tea and coffee I have every had!
Rus and his wife run a beautiful and hospitable tea shop. The ramp and pepperoni scones, the pistachio and shortbread cookies, and the Ceylon tea and cloudy day latte were delicious and wonderful. Can't wait to visit the next time we pass through Charleston.
We had a wonderful experience at Appalachian Tea during a recent visit to Charleston. The tea selection was amazing, the owners were friendly, knowledgeable and engaging, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was exactly what you would hope for at a tea house; charming, quaint and cozy. I will absolutely visit Appalachian Tea again next time I am in Charleston, and wish there was something similar close to where I live.
I'm from the UK where tea rooms are very common and so when I saw that there was a tea room in Charleston, WV, I was very intrigued. From the moment we stepped in, we were incredibly impressed. We were greeted at the front desk by a very friendly gentleman who would be the person also serving us as well. I found him to be very pleasant, attentive and kind. The teas and the food were fantastic. I had the Darjeeling and it was very tasty - we finished all of it! The sandwich was great too, and tasted like a cucumber sandwich I would have back home at a UK tea room. I would also strongly recommend the sweets too, I had an orange and cardamom cake followed by a pistachio shortbread - both were so good. We were also treated to a really nice matcha and mango drink, along with the very famous civet coffee as well - excellent indeed. Being from London, I'm also quite used to London prices when it comes to having food out. However, the prices were incredibly reasonable! I will definitely be visiting Appalachian Tea again, and I would strongly recommend that others do the same if in the area.
If you want to go to a cool place that offers amazing pastries, tea and coffee, this is a place! Russ and Sasha make you feel very welcomed and they do an amazing job with their holiday specialty trays! Great prices please check it out.
This is a must-visit hidden gem in town. We were just visiting Charleston for the first time and we stumbled upon this place because we wanted to try something local. We came in the afternoon for some tea close to the closing time, and not only Russ went out of his way to make us some delicious tea (Dorian grey, earl grey green tea and ginger peach tea), he also invited us back the next day to try some of his new collection, the legendary Indonesian Kopi Luwak (aka civet coffee). First I was hesitant to say yes because I know how expensive those beans go for and I’m a graduate student on loans, but Russ said he doesn’t believe in charging for an arm or a leg for people to experience the aroma and complexity of this legendary brew, which I respected from the depth of my heart. We came back the next day, not only he fixed us some Kopi Luwak, he also made us some delicious blue mountain coffee as a comparison to civet coffee. I’m no expert in coffee, but even I could tell that civet coffee had the layers of complexity of aroma that the premium blue mountain didn’t have. Russ was so friendly and knowledgeable, I mean this is the dude with the caffeine nomenclature tattooed on him, how can you not trust his taste buds for coffee? He also made us some white coffee shots that was intriguing, and his lovely wife made us some “liquid tiramisu” with their signature orange cardamom cake. Everything was so affordable and delicious, and most importantly, the overall experience of a tea house was in its best form made possible by Russ and Sasha.
I found them in Apple Maps - I was looking for a tea store where I could poke around and get some loose leaf teas, but decided to walk in this little tea house and see if I could get something to go. I’d always been curious about ice wine And they had an ice wine tea I was excited to try. So much flavor! He also said they had coffee for a dollar so I got a cup and a grilled cheese sandwich which was fabulous on a cold rainy morning.
We've gotten several of the tea trays offered from here on special occasions and holidays, and they've always been great combinations of items, all well made. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, and there are plenty of options for fresh made tea.
Really nice, interesting place and people
This place is wonderful and homey. The owners are very knowledgeable and love to talk coffee and tea and their wider experiences with it. We even got to taste test a treat that was wonderful😊. 15/10
