Stopped in for a bacon, egg, and cheese on a maple biscuit. What a fantastic idea. Every bite was delicious. Excellent brunch spot in town.

Great vibe. Meh execution. Avocado toast had the package spread vibe, probably wasn’t but wasn’t great.. (maybe too much bread when I wanted some chunky avocado). Egg sandwich was good. Espresso be was a bit too sweet and the wait was pretty long.. all and all not a place I would go back so no recommendation from me.

Great service and atmosphere and the Vermonter sandwich was very nice. However, I ordered a large coffee and it was one of the worst coffees I've ever had - I struggled to get through it. I didn't add sugar but it was extremely sweet. Other than the coffee, a very nice experience.

Cute and cozy cafe in Burlington! It was a rainy day so definitely felt nice to have a warm cup of coffee. The chocolate croissant was yummy. The atmosphere is very laid back. Enjoyed it.

UPDATE!!! They in their infinite wisdom installed an automatic door closer. But in an even deeper head scratching decision, they decided to go with the lowest possible bidder and get the least expensive door closed than they could. That is already broken four days later. Sadly this made me only buy coffee this morning instead of coffee, a refill, and a sandwich or two. Can't wait till you guys get it fixed. Just in time for summer, and a total lack of needing it. NOTE: this place has great people working there, the food and beverages are fabulous. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Great food but the front door has no spring loaded closer. The door stays open due to unconscious customers leaving it open. Pointless to try and sit and enjoy your coffee or food, bundle up, out of town peeps will forget that others exist and leave the door open and you freeze. Just hit McDonald's. Sad, spend $35 for 2 coffees, 2 sandwiches only to freeze to death INDOORS. Spend the $300 on a door closer and we will come back and buy your over priced goods. Seems reasonable.

Only got some coffee. It's a nice spot and if you find a cozy corner it's pretty hard to leave!

If you're in the city of Burlington and you're looking for the best bread around, look no further than August First. This bustling eatery is known for its incredible baked goods, particularly its bread, which is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Despite the crowds that often gather outside, it's worth braving the line to experience the quality of the bread for yourself. The service can take a bit, but trust us when we say that the bread is worth the wait. If you're a bread lover, you simply can't miss this place. Inside, the atmosphere is lovely and provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a cozy and inviting space that feels like a different world entirely. Now, let's talk about the food. We tried the Avocado Toast, the Focaccia (which we used at home for a pesto pasta dinner), and a chocolate cookie, and everything was fantastic. The bread was the perfect amount of airy, and the crust was impressively crispy. The prices were about 10-15 bucks per item, which might seem a bit steep, but when you consider the quality of the bread, it's easily worth it. Overall, I can't recommend August First enough. If you're a bread lover, this is a must-visit spot in the city of Burlington. Just be prepared to wait in line and maybe have a bit of patience with the service. But once you take a bite of that amazing bread, you'll know it was all worth it.

We went there after trying another bakery in Burlington the day before and being disappointed. August First was the bakery that we needed for our sugar fix. We tried their pain au chocolat, lemon ginger scone, and muffin. It was all really good.

The special, sliced steak breakfast sandwich, was delicious. The cinnamon roll, especially the frosting, was perfect on a snowy morning.

I think I’ve found THE tastiest breakfast sandwich! The building adds to the charm and is filled with delicious baked goods and complex sandwiches. The kitchen is up close - it’s easy to fall in a trance watching each part of the operation on a busy morning. With plenty of seating, it’s a great spot to read or catch up with friends!

The baked items are good. For the premium price they charge I feel the food should have been a bit more elevated than it was. If I come here and pay a premium I want something on another level than a $5 breakfast sandwich from a gas station deli.

I have been privileged in seeing August First change over the years, and I am happy that it has been passed to such great people. The food has stayed great, pastries and savory sandwiches alike. I do however need to put in my two cents about a change that has diminished the homey feeling August First used to have. The transition from traditional, dishwasher plates to non-reusable take-out boxes. To me, this not only generates unnecessary waste, it also create an atmosphere of quantity of customers over quality of experience. I understand the need for take-out during the pandemic and the cost increase in hiring a dish washer, but in the end, I do not want to go to a place that does not give me an option to reduce the trash I create. It makes me a little sad that so many people are okay to go along with this decision. I have much love for the management (M&F), but I have to be honest in saying that this is something that is really pushing me away from visiting, and I will likely not come back until I don't have to worry about being a part of the problem. 5 stars for the food and people 2 stars for the decision to waste this much
