I always had good experience here . Appreciated
great restaurant in an unexpected town. wonderful variety of entrays
Very pleased with the food and great service. I had the curried fig and poblano chicken and absolutely loved it. Fantastic selection of bourbon, and some really great cocktails as well. My wife had one of their fusion dishes (can’t recall name) and loved it also. Hidden gem in this nice little town
Slow. Fresh. Food. Worth the wait. Great service with unexpected palate of flavors offered. Wished we lived closer.
Cute local restaurant, food was great!
They are very understaffed. The food is good but they desperately need more help.
Calculated mediocrity, it took an hour and a half before we were finally served everything for our meal. Tea, appetizer, entree, and dessert. It was one hostess/waitress in workout attire running frantically everywhere. For the price of the food it was ok, the portion sizes were average, but I was not wowed by the taste at all. I really regret not making the drive to the harvest, much better food. The outside looks nice but the inside is kind of drab, not sure what theme they're going for but it looked like Christmas lights hung up inside. My lamb kabobs were ok, but the rice was definitely overcooked. Not too happy that we went here for our anniversary dinner, it wasn't busy but it took so long everything was closed by the time we got out. The point I'm making which was missed by the owners in regards to not being slow eaters is that you are severely understaffed. The food itself didn't take long to come out, the longest part was simply placing our orders because you literally have one waitress on a Friday night!
Food is decent but the service was slow. Not very busy when we ate but a few dishes took more than an hour and a half. The honey butter chicken and the apple empanadas are great. Steak dish is so so, not a great cut so I would recommend the ribeye if you’re ordering steak. Beet salad was disappointing, I thought it would have been nice chunky beets but it was mostly salad mix. Overall, probably your best place to go in Brownwood, just ask them make your order faster.
This is a gem of a find. The menu is outstanding & the quality of the dishes are impeccable! Will be back with any out of town visitors (especially if they think we, here in little Brownwood, don't have anything to rival "The big city." The wine list is extensive, creative, & curated with the adventurer at heart!
Fabulous dining experience and cuisine. Slow dining at its finest! Highly recommended - don’t miss it!
Absolutely horrible. Been here 9 times over the past 3 years and the restaurant has gradually gone downhill. Tonight showed up and and saw 3 table seated. Ordered and after 1 hour of waiting, decided we had enough. They were gracious, but made excuses about how "busy" they were. Don't take tables if you can't serve them. Won't go back again - Lucille + Mabel from now on…service with a smile every time.
Great place with amazing food and drinks with servers that make you feel like family.
What a gem I found! This place exceeded my expectations. When in a smaller market, I rarely find a place with a wine list this extensive! Put that together with a great menu and great staff! Jared and Lauren certainly deserve the shout out!
I hate to do this but I was pretty upset! My husband made reservations for Valentines Day, we were not informed that they were serving a “Valentines day special” for $95.00 per person and not offering a cheaper option!!!The food was good but not $250.00 good. He should have be told that this was the only option for the night! It was ridiculously over priced! We were there for over 2 hours waiting on courses to be served. Plus having made reservations 2 weeks ago we were put in the “overflow” room. So disappointing for Valentines Day! Blew our budget for the month!!! Sorry probably won’t be going back….which is too bad, because the food is really good…
Amazing the find this kind of chef driven food in the Hill Country (though becoming more common fortunately). I had their Oklahoma burger which was great. Their execution of it was a little different than I've seen before. They chop the onion into the beef. The end result was outstanding none the less. The got the char you'd expect from the griddle. Homemade chips. A great wine list too! The server was really young but knew the menu very well and was attentive. It was particularly busy for a Friday night so I hope people appreciate this place. I'll be back the next time I'm in Brownwood.
What a delicious surprise! Our first time to eat at The Turtle and we can’t wait to go back. It will be hard to not order the Curried Fig and Poblano Chicken every time (so good!) but it would be crazy not to try all of their gourmet offerings. Everything was most excellent: the food, the service, the atmosphere, the house-made chocolates. This is a don’t-miss establishment.
The service was horrible. The main room of the restaurant was left to the charge of a child who by his own admission had only been there 2 days. Only 3 tables were occupied but I guess because I was alone I was seated at a small table in the front window (it was a cold evening so not a comfortable place to sit). It turned out that the child was not my waiter instead i got a female who had just rolled out of bed and obviously didn't want to be there. My very small pour of a very mediocre Pino was served in a dirty glass and it took me forever to get her attention to get a new glass which i am pretty sure was the same one with the rim wiped clean. After 30 minutes she finally came and took my order. I ordered a salad and Jägerschnitzel. I never got the salad. The food was ok but the cook obviously doesn't know how to make Spätzle (I was so looking forward to it). It took about 30 minutes to get my food. I ate without interruption never once asked if i need anything else, i did need some salt because the red cabbage was very sour. Then I sat there with a finished dirty plate in my face for 30 minutes. I finally got the child's attention and ask for creme brule (also looking forward it). About 20 minutes later I was presented with a passable pudding with a thick syrup on top not the delicate crunchy sugar film it's supposed to be. In total I was sitting there for almost 2 hours ok if you have others to talk to but not if your sitting alone on "bench W". My bill was $56 and though it goes against all my principles I did not leave a tip. Don't waste your time or money on this place.
Great service, excellent food. Friendly atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, good wine and alcohol selection, food is awesome, outstanding service.
Amazing food, creative menu & dreamy atmosphere! We love the patio and all 3 times have had a super sweet waitress, the chef said hi and treat ourself to really fresh and tasty gelato! Thank you Turtle Restaurant :)
