The coffee was really good. I had a waffle with prosciutto and my company had a waffle with peanut butter and bananas - both were really good. They have tables outside. Bathroom was very clean.
Great coffee shop in West Ashley. Best gluten free waffles, best service and coffee! Highly recommend
Great in every detail: service, food, coffee and atmosphere. It's a clean, well run place with delicious freshly made food.
Doing some science. Pretty sure Second State makes the best latte you can buy. The snacks and waffles are also tops. Super cool staff
Delicious coffee and cool merch! I had a honey lavender latte and it was SOOOO GOOD!! 🔥
First I want to say the staff was amazing and the atmosphere great - but unfortunately I'm coming here for coffee, not nice people. To be honest I was in the area visiting and thought I'd skip Starbucks for something local. It was a nice spot, felt very homey. I patiently waited 15 minutes for the freshly made lavender latte that I was sooo looking forward to. As much as I would love to have loved it, my literal first thought as the coffee hit my lips was "this coffee sucks!" You can have a cool spot, with great people but at the end of the day I'm not trying to wait 15 minutes and pay $5 for a tasteless beverage with a milk leaf drawn on it. 🤷
At first, walking in, it looks like a cute café with shaded seating outside. Walking up closer, I noticed dishes and trash and tables are a mess. When I walk in, I was greeted, but was unaware of where to place my order. I ordered a tea, coffee, muffin, but one of the muffin warmed. Unfortunately, they do not have an oven and I like my breakfast warm. I wish I would’ve known before I ordered the muffin. The muffin was great though.(coconut vanilla). The outside it was shaded, but the bigger benches took up too much room. I didn’t order the waffles but they did look delicious.
I frequent this Second State location often for their delicious caramel latte (they make the caramel syrup in house and it’s perfection) and their deviled egg waffle. I purchase their beans as well to make pour overs and French press at home and the baristas always have a plethora of information to share about the tasting notes of each offering. Love this place!
Hands down my favorite coffee spot in Charleston so far. Amazing coffee (and brunch), and a really nice place to meet a friend or do some work.
Really wonderful oat milk mocha!
Ordered an iced brown sugar oat milk latte and it was amazing! The quality of coffee here is great
I've been here several times and always have great service. My latte is always perfect. No burnt espresso. Velvety steamed milk. Definitely recommend.
This place is adorable and Second State coffee is the best in town.
Great brews, good coffee, perfect for a chat, a meeting or to read
Some of the best coffee I’ve had in a long time! Winter latte is a win
I'm guessing I'm the outlier here, and I'm ok with that. My biggest gripe are the prices. I get that everything has gone up with inflation, but this goes beyond that. Perhaps it's what is needed to stay afloat, but I honestly cringe every time I place my order and pay my bill. My wife loves it though.
Decided to try Second State's West Ashley location & complete some work. The shop was cute and the employees were so nice. I tried a salted caramel latte with oat milk and their lox and cucumber waffle. My latte was simply one of my favorite I've ever had. It was well balanced and delicious. The waffle I had on the other had was not my favorite. Each component individually was good, but for my liking having all together just simply did not work. Everything tasted fresh- cornbread like waffle, pickled cucumbers, lox, and a cream cheese drizzle. I believe I would try a different waffle next time for sure! My only complaint for a coffee shop was that there was only 1 or 2 outlets that were accessible for patrons to use. I will definitely be back!
I couldn't figure out how to order regular coffee. But maybe that was me. Otherwise great coffee, and a super moist blueberry muffin. Better than Starbucks
My wife and I are pretty new to Charleston and live in West Ashley, and this has been our go to coffee shop. The gluten free waffles are excellent and have some unique flavors/toppings like deviled egg (my favorite) or cinnamon apple. Try their pour overs and their oat milk lattes, you will not be disappointed. I love supporting local businesses, and I buy their beans regularly. Try the Sakaro, one of the many different varieties to choose from. I just mailed some to my cousin in California. Perfect place for a brunch date or getting work done.
The lemon blueberry waffles were delicious and the hot coco was served so beautifully!
