Cute place. A little disappointed they didn't do blended coffees. But the tea was good.
Disappointed in my first experience here. We got two regular iced coffees, small size, not even espresso, with one pump caramel and the total was $17.50. This is hands down the most expensive drink I’ve EVER bought, and it doesn’t even taste good. Very unfortunate that the price is astronomical like this. I actually thought it was a mistake to be charged like that.
Visited for the first time this morning and it was absolutely fantastic! I love that all of their products are ethically sourced. Highly recommend the Maple Sunrise and ALL of the macarons! Before visiting, I checked out the website as well as the reviews here on Google. I have to say, I absolutely love how the owner/manager stands by their employees 100% of the time (who were incredibly polite and welcoming, by the way). I’m also happy to pay an extra $1-2 for a cup of coffee with a strong mission, and love a company that does right by its customers, suppliers, and employees. Needless to say, I’ll be back to try more menu items very soon!
Love their chai tea and hot chocolate!! They have a great selection of coffee as well. I am not much of a coffee drinker but lot of my friends love the coffee here. Great ambience and very friendly staff.
My friend was in town and she decided before she left that she wanted some coffee so we searched for a place with nice reviews and found this one. So we came here on a rainy day and while the space was beautiful, clean, and warm; and the coffee and pastries were good, the energy surrounding the place was not the best which is off putting because it was inside of a church. We are not religious but were raised in it and didnt expect to feel much like a spectacle when we arrived. The main issue was our interaction with our barista who was very cold shouldered and very dismissive our entire 20 min of being there. I am a server and a part of the job is learning and remembering peoples orders so that they feel heard. The barista was not very welcoming and that was a clear sign that he wasnt too interested in taking care of us, he was also very quick to shut us down when we told him that the blueberry muffin that he gave me was actually peach cinnamon and barely ever made eye contact. I dont typically drink coffee but I did today for my friend and I will not be bringing my friend back here ever again. I think this space is probably for a specific group of people and/or Christians and they made that very clear with body language and nonverbal communication today. The lack of diversity in the reviews speak for itself.
My friend and I just went here for the first time. First of all, we were not aware it was in the back of a church. Both of us are queer and felt an immediate hesitancy not knowing if we’d be welcomed there. We walked in hoping for the best because the reviews looked great, but did not receive a particularly warm welcome from the barista. The drinks we ordered were delicious, though he gave us the wrong muffin- he said he had blueberry but what my friend got was cinnamon peach. When we told him it wasn’t what she ordered, and that it was peach instead, he said “peach? we don’t sell peach. cranberry maybe?” my friend knows what she tasted, and it felt off-putting and dismissive. At that point we decided to leave. I’m writing this review to raise awareness for anyone coming that it’s in a Church and perhaps for Defined to consider the way they treat customers who don’t look like them or who aren’t a part of this church’s community.
Love it! Coffee is awesome :) service is great. Atmosphere is welcoming for homework or chatting with friends!
My first time here. I got the maple sunrise. One sip. I couldn’t help but say “oh my God this is nasty” so we will not be returning lol. I cannot BELIEVE someone approved that for the menu.
Best seats are by the fireplace
Extremely friendly staff and great coffee!
I'm so sad, I love this place but won't be going back. I've been a customer and go every time I'm in town but this morning I ordered 2 drinks and it came to $16. I pay around $9. for the same order at the drive through near me. When I asked how I just ordered 2 $8 drinks the young man said, things cost more everywhere.
Don’t be confused by the lovely church. It is a coffee shop too! Delicious latte 😀
Wonderful coffee experience. Plus supporting local....
It's a nice coffee shop located in a unique foyer area of a church. Very big and open. The coffee shop is independent, so the coffee and snacks are of good quality.
Very cozy with fireplace, nice fall drinks, lots of seating options.
Defined is THE BEST coffee in CLT. Do yourself a favor and get some.
I absolutely love this coffee shop! It’s in a very quiet area so you can enjoy it indoors or outdoors. It’s very clean and welcoming with tons of space. As a flight attendant, I visit at least one new coffee shop per week, but this local shop is top 5! The coffee flavor is 10/10. I got an iced americano 1/2 caf with sugar free vanilla and a little bit of oat milk. I would get one daily if I let myself! All of the pastries look amazing
Once a week treat. They staff are great and the coffee is too.
They truly have the best coffee, most awesome baristas. And while inside a church, there is plenty of room to sit and chill. But one day I took a deep dive into the religion they preach and learned that they are not accepting to lgbtq. They’ll hate the sin but love the sinner deal, tolerate, but don’t see as equal. Took the shine off of hanging out there.
Great shop in a lovely atmosphere. Great place to get work done or meet with a friend. The baristas are very good at what they do and even gave us a history lesson on the Americana, which was delicious!
