Phoebe's Restaurant has operated on the corner of East Genesee and Irving Avenue since 1976. It's a favorite of theater goers who attend performances at Syracuse Stage across the street. However, Phoebe's is an excellent restaurant and deserves to be a destination on its own. Recently, I ordered a large Caesar salad with chicken for lunch. The chicken was plentiful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The romaine lettuce was crisp and fresh, and the croutons were airy and crunchy. My only disappointment was that the Caesar dressing could have been more flavorful . UPDATE#1: Returned for lunch and ordered the same salad. The Cesar dressing was improved. UPDATE#2: Returned again for lunch. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a delicious onion aioli and a side of kettle chips. I ordered the turkey club on marbled rye with a side of excellent French fries. Included on the plate, was a very tasty slice of pickle. My sandwich had a pesto/parmesan aioli which I felt distracted from the taste of the turkey. Next time, I would request plain mayonnaise. Phoebe's is owned by the same group that owns the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles. The Inn includes a restaurant which is one of the best places to eat in the Syracuse area for ambiance and food.
Great service, tasty salads and soups, but oh, the desserts!
It's been years since I had time to return to Phoebe's for a unique lunch. The same owner, great atmosphere. Definitely stop in!!
Love it. Feels like you are in "friends". Cozy an familiar. Excellent atmosphere and service.
Historic building, beautiful inside. Wonderful food, excellent service, friendly, and exceptional clean.
Food is very important to me as a fellow chef. My meal was excellent, but my partner's risotto was undercooked. The server called for the manager, and she was at our side before we knew it. She asked if they could make her a new meal and she said no but would take a dessert. She promptly took our dessert orders, apologized and left to put them in. As the only Black patrons in the restaurant at the time we dined, we were expecting some pushback or attitude, but we were pleasantly surprised and appreciative. We will return.
Tonight was my first time at Phoebe's and my food was on point. My partner's meal however was not. We said something to our server, Randy, who btw was very lovely to us, and next thing you know out comes Jessica to check on us. We informed her of the matter at hand and she was so pleasant and apologized and wanted to remedy the situation. Given that we were the only Black people in the dinning room, we were not sure what kind of treatment to expect. We are beyond delighted with how both Randy and Jessica handled the situation. We will be back.
Very nice restaurant in the university area. Casual and business atmosphere. Attentive servers and nice bar. It was a good choice to meet friends for happy hour
We loved it. Very good food. Staff great. Nice restaurant. Street parking... so that can be tough. Right across the street from Syracuse Stage.
The restaurant itself is very cute. Like some have said, dated, but you really can’t beat the skylights. Staff was wonderful. The issue was sadly the food. I’m not a reviewing type person but I was actually shocked at how bad it was. I hadn’t eaten a full 24 hours before getting this food (I doubly appreciated the fast service) so they really had a layup here because I would have been delighted with literally anything. But the barely thawed shrimp with a dribble of chimichurri sauce that tasted like wet leave, with no seasoning of any kind, including salt, was aggressively bland. Sad because everything else was great!
It was an awesome experience! We had reservations on a Saturday night, walked in, and sat right away, which was great as I was starving! We had clam chowder (good), the charcuterie board (very good!), and the bread was awesome! Then I had the NY Strip... amazing, and my daughter had the short ribs, which were very good as well! The meat was cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were delicious. Even the kale side was good, and that's saying something (not a big kale fan)! The coffee was a local roaster... so good, no creme or honey (yeah, I'm THAT guy), then some sort of three berry tart...soooooooo good!!! Our server was the best! She was a true professional, and as good as the food was SHE (I totally forgot her name) made the meal over the top... Also I was so hungry I didn't take any photos... but to put it in perspective, 45 minutes we had bread, apps, entrée, dessert, AND coffee on a Saturday night... the waitress quickly assessed that we were hungry, came through with good suggestions and delivered all courses, and earned herself a 30% tip
This is a phenomenal venue for a bridal shower. My bridal shower was held there in April. The staff was exceptional, making sure all of our guests had drinks or anything they may need. The food was perfect, even gave us to go boxes at the end. They were flexible with accommodating some changes to their lunch menu as well that we requested. The rooms are well decorated leaving for very little additional decor to be brought. We focused only on centerpieces and some signage. We were not rushed out at the end while they were cleaning up. Even found a surprise gift from them amongst my gifts at the end. If you are looking for a venue for bridal shower I would highly recommend!
From the moment we walked through the door... we were warmly greeted. Our bartender mixed us up some beautiful pre-lunch drinks. Once all of us made it to our table (my favorite table)... Catherine (sp?) took wonderful care of us. Many important family memories made at this establishment... hadn't been in a long time and it didn't disappoint!
Excellent food and service. Try the duck bacon wontons
This was my first time back in years and the food and service were not what I remember. Really disappointing.
In Syracuse for work. Walking around, place looked cool. Walked in for dinner. Great choice. Food was good, staff was very nice an so was the service. The place seems to have its "regulars". Several people near me were greeted by name; that's always a good sign. Atmosphere inside is relaxed. Seems like a good choice for lunch or dinner. Would recommend!
It was a cute place and the staff were nice. I ordered a chicken burger which I had to return because the chicken was inedible. Unfortunately, I already a had eaten two bites and ended up spending the next 12 hours vomiting. It was also over priced.
I ordered take out, and the salad greens were old, some of them were rotten. I did't expect this from such restaurant, was very disappointed.
Solid food, tiny bit pricey. Great service
Very good food and the actual restaurant is beautiful. The space is really neat and the decor is on point.
