Great coffee shop and roastery with ample seating and great seasonal drink offerings.

Our barista was Jimmy. We were from out of town and were curious about some of the signature coffee drinks. He explained how they developed some of the recipes and the extra steps they took to make sure each drink was flavorful and perfect. We really enjoyed talking to him and really enjoyed the coffee. Highly recommend.

TLDR: overpriced, bad taste (burnt and fruity), paid for 20oz and got 15.75oz cup There's a photo from a year ago claiming the 20oz drip coffee used to be 2.95 which seemed reasonable but it is now 4.27 with tax for a plain black coffee. I usually drink coffee for the caffeine so I asked the barista for a 20oz drip of whichever had the most caffeine in it at which point she explained that they weigh it so all coffee has the same caffeine, the only variable I care about is constant. Not a great situation. I wait until I'm home to give the coffee a taste and it's pretty burnt tasting along with a slightly fruity taste for some odd reason. The cup looked pretty low so I measured it and it wasn't even their smaller 16oz size. The cup can barely hold 21oz when completely full. For someone who mainly cares about my caffeine addiction this place isn't for me.

Great place to study! Coffee and pastries are reasonably priced and delicious. Plenty of tables, many of which have nearby outlets for electric devices. Plus I know my money is going to a great business that emphasizes fair trade products!

I absolutely love this place and their coffee. There is a perfect balance of sweet and savoury, especially the mocha. The staff is super friendly and helpful! ALSO AFFORDABLE !

Always good to find a good roaster/shop combo and Up Cafe is one of those. Good coffee, groovy shop, nice merch, in a light industrial location. Tasty cappuccinos.

You can't go wrong with UP. They have the best whole bean coffee in the Twin Cities. I can't rave enough about the freshness and flavor, but the most important thing is the people. They have amazing service. My online orders are fulfilled so quickly. A real person emails me an order confirmation. That is rare and refreshing in this day and age. You can tell that the employees feel cared about. I could go on and on...

Truly magnificent cup of coffee. It’s a delight to grab a cup when I’m in the area.

Veggie Quiche was great. Girlfriends chestnut vanilla latte was solid. Cortado was too large of a size for ratio of espresso to milk and somehow it tasted really burnt still? That part was really disappointing. Maybe I'll try the pour over next time. It seems like every other roaster in the twin cities like to burn their espresso blends. Sad.

Up Coffee is great. They have some great snacks too. I’ve been addicted to these gluten-free bars.

I have lived in or around the twin cities for most of my 44 years. It took me ordering a flat white at a coffee shop called "The Dock" in Spooner Wisconsin to discover your incredible coffee, specifically the Black Lotus beans. My absolute favorite for espresso! Will visit the store soon hopefully to get fresh beans direct from the beaners 😉 as the ones I got at the dock were over a month old but still delicious.

Always as quick as possible (lots of lattes takes a bit anywhere), always fresh, always my favorite. Very nearly the only place I buy coffee anymore

The cutest little hidden cafe! Warm and cozy vibes. Coffee is great and lots of baked goods to choose from. I had a toffee muffin and my son really enjoyed his Reeses Pieces cookie.

Love these guys! One of my favorite roasters not just in the city - but anywhere. They have great tasting notes to help you pick out the roast that is right for you. I am able to order on their site and have the coffee directly delivered to my house! Just got the Angry Bull - one of my favorite! Olivia & staff at their cafe loaction are amazing!

Ordered a flat white at the cafe and was told “That’s a Starbucks drink, they have like a special machine.” You mean like an espresso machine and a milk frother? News flash Starbucks didn’t invent the Flat white and they are not in possession of any “special machinery.” I thought this was supposed to be a legit coffee place, clearly not.

Update: seems like they got bought out by private equity. Explains what I noticed below, the reductions in staff, and the new upcharges for ice on drinks that are clearly intended to be iced, etc. Very sad to see. Been coming here for years, it used to be my absolute favorite, but their switch to "Big Train" branded powdered drink mixes for chai, blended ice drinks, and more(?) has been incredibly disappointing. You can definitely taste that it's just a powdered mix. Their beans are still good, but the cafe experience is a bit disappointing depending on what you get.
