Food here was all fresh made in house, I got the grilled white fish dinner with pasta and a spring salad. The pasta was delicious! We also got the crawfish appetizer which was fun as some people in our group had not tried it before. Also awesome that this place sources a lot of their food locally. Only slight criticism I could give is our waiter was a bit scarce during our meal and not super personable but I'm sure they were maybe just tired after a long day as this is a busy place!

I think this would have been a great experience if it weren't for our server Lily. The food was great, the homemade soda was fun and delicious and an awesome location. The story with Lily is that I had ordered the trout + chips basket, which came out as herring - at first blush this isn't a problem. I'm happy to have the herring, sounded delicious too, no problem. The issue was that she said I ordered the herring implying that I had no choice. I for sure never even said the word herring. Normally this is fine, people put in orders wrong, it happens, but she didn't own up to it and lied to me that I had ordered something else. This would have been completely fine if she just apologized. But she didn't have to apologize, the 20% tip is automatically added so she had no incentive to be an upright server. I will be back, the place is great, but Lily ruined it for the sake of this review.

Had the “taco basket” - grilled fish tacos (2) w/ coleslaw option (thicker slaw, was good on the tacos 😁) with an add of waffle fries on the side. Tacos were tasty w/ a touch of heat 😋! Took it to go - order was ready instantly, well packaged, friendly staff. Park up at street level and walk down below.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a pleasant experience here. When we were greeted we were told to wait so they could get a table set up. When the greeter walked back, we were abruptly told with an unfriendly demeanor that we weren't standing in the right spot and needed to get out of the way from workers coming by. It was not busy and not obvious we were in the way. Our waitress Hailey was very nice and attentive, the food was good, and you have a beautiful view of Lake Superior. When we were done eating, I took one of my 2 toddlers out of her high chair and I turned to grab my leftovers when someone cleaning tables rudely snapped at us that we shouldn't be letting our kid play with that (a long cord hanging down from a lighted sign right at the heighth of a toddler). I had no idea my child was doing it and of course immediately stopped her. My husband and I were so taken aback by the anger in her voice and the way she glared at us as if we had let our child run rampant. I appreciate being told about the cord but I was harshly scolded instead of given a caring voice of concern. 95% of my Google reviews are 5 stars as I think we need to give more praise than criticism in this world. I only write negative ones when someone is disrespectful or blatantly rude. I will never come back here due to the way we were treated. If you do eat here, do not bring young children as it is not kid friendly. I highly recommend Bluewater Cafe down the street--they are so sweet to my girls, but they were closed today so we didn't have that option.

We really enjoy the food here, the presentation of the food is also always very good. I rated the service a bit lower because they kicked us out for talking too much and I don't know that I've ever been asked to leave early due to another party behind us, and it wasn't like we were there very long. Otherwise wonderful food and atmosphere.

This used to be a good place to eat with great food and great service. Lately they've become quite full of themselves. The food is still good but the service is not. They can't wait to get you out of there. As a bonus they add a 20 percent service charge. They can't call it gratuity because that is something you give graciously for good service. A service charge is something they take indiscriminately. I'll never go back.

The restaurant looks welcoming but unassuming from the outside, but once you enter and start looking closer at the woodwork, you realize that everything about the building and art is exceptional. Even the structure itself is a work of art! The work put into food is as good, if not better than the building too. I wanted to eat everything on the menu.

The Mushroom Skewers are so good. The meal sits light in the tummy but is full of flavor. I suggest you go with the pasta for the side and split the chocolate cake with everyone at the table.

Angry Trout Cafe was a perfect place to have lunch the day we were exploring Grand Marais. The view was spectacular from our table. We wanted to dine on the deck, but the flying insects were annoying, so we opted for inside. We appreciated the hostesses honesty and giving us the heads up. There were four of us and we all ordered the same, Fish & Chips. Their chips were Waffle Fries, which I found to be odd. However, they were crisp and went well with the the crispy fish. The breading on the fish was thick and seasoned well. The piece of fish was also a hefty thick slice of meat, so they complimented each other. The cole slaw was creamy, which I prefer over a vinegar & oil. If I lived up here during Lent, this would be a go to for my Friday Fish. Three of enjoyed a glass of white wine and the fourth went for a soda. The wine was a nice pour, so one glass was enough for our meal. The service was friendly and quick. The staff was hustling, it was peak season when I was there. I told our server that I was not a fan of tartar sauce and she encouraged me to try theirs. I did and I was blown away, it was the first tartar sauce I have ever liked. Not being a tartar sauce fan, all I can tell you is that its flavor was more flavorful. They do charge a service fee for using a plastic card and they do not allow dogs on the patio or deck. No emotional support dogs allowed. Only dogs allowed are service animals. Only reason I am sharing this, is they had multiple signs up telling guest the rule.

Arrived a hungry trout - left a happy trout. Food was very fresh and tasted phenomenal. Would highly recommend if you’re in the Grand Marais area. Great location right in the harbor. We got the fish chowder (sockeye salmon) and herring with salad & pasta and a herring with salad & wild rice. All 3 were delicious. Definitely coming back!

Fresh, healthy, and satisfying food. Service was perfect (not overbearing, but attentive). Also, whoever was whistling in the kitchen is really talented, it was pleasant and totally added to the atmosphere!

Hands down this restaurant is a big part of why I enjoy Grand Marais so much. Thought we'd try a different place on the second night of our recent trip, but ended up back here for dessert-- no regrets!! Incredible ambiance, architecture, artwork, and of course food
