The fact that there is normally only one barista behind the counter gives this cafe a more personal feel - I'm socially awkward and shy, but if there is only one other person it's much easier for me to make conversation. That factor makes this place so much more welcoming than any other coffee shop in TC
I have tasted likely over 100 roasters and been in person to dozens all across the US and Europe. Higher Grounds is my favorite. In person is always a good choice but their roasting of beans is unparalleled in my opinion.
Great cafe, nice people and a chill vibe. Lots of light-medium roasts but nothing super light. A little more traditional but the only shop in the area that is involved with SCA.
I haven’t been here but I have bought the beans from Costco, the Highland Humanity, and it is phenomenal.
Really nice coffee spot to go to before you explore the nearby shops! The barista there was incredibly personable and nice and made my girlfriend and I feel incredibly welcome :)

Let me just say, I love all there drinks and they have amazing coffee. However, as of late they will lock there door with ZERO explanation and it won’t be on there online hours OR on there door. This has happened to me twice, and the second time I got someone’s attention (who was inside) and they just told me they were short on staff which I can understand BUT then an employee who has been known for being rude ran up behind her to shut the door in my face trying to make sure I didn’t get an explanation. They are literally letting people stand at there door trying to get in while they are inside ignoring everyone that comes up. At least have a explanation and don’t ignore your customers.
Coffees are delicious, shop is in a great location for a peaceful place to sip on your coffee. We even buy their bagged beans when we come across them in stores.
We stumbled upon this coffee shop and I was so surprised at how great it was. The building was the first thing that stood out. But the staff were so friendly and the atmosphere is so nice and inclusive. The coffee is also amazing.
I think Higher Grounds has the best espresso and lattes in Traverse City.
I absolutely love Higher Grounds! I just had the most excellent experience ever with the barista, Lauren. He is always so welcoming and made me the best strawberry matcha when it was not on the menu yet. Their coffee and matcha are some of the best in Traverse City!
The coffee here is truly amazing. They roast their own beans on the premises and sell and ship the beans anywhere. My cappuccinos are definitely noteworthy. They have a nice, little outdoor patio and also limited seating indoors. It’s located at The Commons in Traverse City so plan some shopping too.

One of the best vanilla lattes I’ve ever had! I love how all the syrups are homemade and that there are seasonal varieties. Lavender latte is good as well . They also have really good coffee and grounds that we use at home
