I usually get the iced vanilla latte. Fast friendly service. Good brews and fresh beans. Unpretentious. Parking can be a task.
My favorite Coffee House. Alanzo's double dark beans to take home. Lovely atmosphere. Superb service with a smile!
Had a espresso with chocolate powder. WOW
Great coffee, great staff. Very well ran local business. My favourite place to get coffee in Portland. Dog friendly too
Great coffee, great place to meet people, service is fast. Sometimes I buy a bag of coffee and the free coffee is always a great perk.
[Updated - another update at the bottom] I'm sadly lowering my score. We drive to CBD every weekend and spend about $40 for two half gallons of cold brew. We earn reward points, but they won't let us use them on the half gallons. They say that it is for individual cups only. I don't get more rewards for buying expensive half gallons, so this policy doesn't make any sense. Unless they change this, we'll stop going there. We never get just one coffee and now we have $50 worth of rewards points that we won't use. Lame. Coffee by Design has been my favorite coffee shop for decades. They've always hired great people to work for them. The coffee is amazing. It really feels like a neighborhood hangout. Every weekend I grab a couple of half gallons of cold brew to get me through the week. I will say that I miss the Baker's Bench pastries. Hope they consider bringing them back. If they do, I'll add a star for a six star review. [Update 2] They converted my $40 to 4 "stars" which is a drastically lower value. I've been a customer since they opened and after talking with them, I'm done. I won't be back. There are plenty of other places to get coffee.
Great coffee shop with abundant, free parking close by! They offer a variety of coffee-making supplies (like French presses and Chemex), plus coffee by the pound and made-to-order coffee and tea. They also have a bunch of tables with free WIFI for working. I ordered their winter special, the "Snow Spice", to-go and it was delicious! It was an oat milk latte with steamed cold brew, nutmeg, and cinnamon and was tasty as heck! I would definitely order that again!
One of the best cortados I’ve had. Espresso roast is amazing.
it was cool, hot chocolate was great. the environment was awesome #official365
I ordered (latte, chai and nitro cold brew) for my self and all of them are incredibly good. One of the must visit in Portland
Came here with the intention of picking up a bag of coffee couple days ago. When we went in we decided it would be a good idea to order a couple lattes. Mine was ever so slightly bitter but my friends was fine. I'm waiting for the CO2 in the beans to get out, so in a couple days I'll write about that. The shop was really nice to walk around in and I was impressed with how nice they made the shop despite the ugly concrete surroundings. Other than the Barista asking for a tip, the staff was nice. Will be going again once my current bag of coffee runs out! After this review, we pick up coffee here as often as possible. I’ve gifted the coffee multiple times and it’s always received positive feedback by the gifted. I’ve bought 4 bags so far, all different roasts, and it always tastes excellent. The Nebilyer Valley roast is wonderful. And the fact that it’s washed in a local mill instead of Goroka, differentiates it from other farms of this region of Papau New Guinea. Brewed as a single out of our espresso machine it’s complex, light, and buttery. Definitely my favorite roast so far.
Love the beans here. Their 1994 blend is great. 16 - 20 dollars for a bag. Larger bags here than most other places (16oz vs 12oz) Good espresso. Pleasantly complex. Strong.
I am new to this experience. I just purchased a bean to cup machine. I visited to gather information about beans and received more than I could have asked for. We got to speak with the owner directly and she spent quite a bit of time with us. We are very impressed and will definitely be back. Thank you
Tasty honey lavender latte here! The baristas were very accommodating to our search for a specific hot chocolate, which was kind. Really reasonable prices, too!
Won't go back: we waited 30 minutes truly 30 minutes for an americano. The staff was friendly and the product when finished was good, but they were completely understaffed. This was a Sunday morning, but it was certainly not packed. Next time we will go elsewhere, 30 minutes is unacceptable.
I am from Portland and have loved CBD for decades now. I moved to Canada in 2002, but when I am home, it is a must stop...several times over. They have great milk substitutes. My partner and I usually stick to a Dirty Chai Latte (extra shot, with Oat milk) or a Mocha (Oat milk, extra shot, Iced). Back in the day they sold really yummy chocolate croissants and raspberry cheese croissants. We loved them, but haven't found their snacks as good since. There is almost always a line up, but it makes sense for how yummy the coffee is. We often bring home the Casco Bay Blend beans.
As an avid coffee drinker, the coffee here is excellent and some of the best I’ve had from a cafe in a long time. The space is great for meeting up with people or doing some solo work.
Decent espresso and black tea. Not a lot of baked goods or food options. Cute seating with a mix of options and a few wall plugs for charging. Biggest issue for me was the wifi speed but I’d come back again regardless
I love getting a recommendation from the baristas. They have never steared me wrong. But one of my favorites is the white satin mocha..... Always perfect on a chilly fall day!
I've been going to CBD for a long time and always liked it. Unfortunately the owner is garbage to the employees so I can't support the place anymore
