The 3 stars is not bec the house and grounds are not amazing and I feel they are worth the money. I debated a 1 star only bec of the rudeness of our house tour guide Darren. I had traveled from KY to see Houmas House in March this year with my bf and loved it so much I brought back my aunt and dtr this past Sunday from KY. I wish we had gotten anyone but Darren. He was shockingly rude to me. If the owner would like to kno what happened I will be glad to speak aBout it more. We traveled a long way and truly believe the Houmas owner would not want customers treated this way.
This was an excellent plantation tour. Huge parking lot with ample room. We bought tickets online for a certain time for the tour. The grounds were impeccable. Beautifully groomed and well cared for. Beautiful lake with swans, geese, and ducks. We had an excellent tour guy. He knew his stuff. Great historical stories to go along with the facts of the home. Each room was carefully decorated to the period and some with original furniture. Very friendly people as well. Tour took about 1:10. We walked the grounds a bit so the whole visit was about 1:40. Oh forgot the nice little kitty to greet you when u get there.
Gorgeous property and a must see if you’re driving through! Also very dog friendly, they are even allowed on the tour of the house!
Absolutely beautiful here! We ate inside the old plantation house. They have guided tours or you can walk the grounds.
I had the most wonderful experience here. This place is historic, romantic, and beautiful. The house is AMAZING. The gardens are creative, well maintained, and beautiful. The restaurants are upscale and delish.
This historical site is just magical! The gardens and mansion is over the top gorgeous! The guide was wonderful. I am really disappointed to have missed the Museum that was built. It sounds amazing. They allowed my little dog on the tour with me. I chose to carry her so she would not have a potty incident. But every little detail was beyond impressive. This is the best of all the plantations to explore!
Out of 5 plantations we visited this one stood out as being the best. The interior rooms were a showplace of furniture from the time period. The grounds and gardens would have been worth seeing even without a tour of the "big house" We bought the combo tickets for Houmas and Destrehan. This saved us alittle but they need to be purchased on line.
Our visit to Houmas House was So Amazing. Our lunch was cooked to perfection. Our server, Parker, was very attentive & professional. We toured the Houmas House & Darren, the tour guide, brought our group back in time as if we were experiencing all of the history. Rachael took time & showed us the beautiful grounds. I visit Houmas House 3-4 times a year. Cindy Wilson
Nice tour just a little more expensive than what I think it's worth. The museum is pretty good but mainly photos and wax figures. Still a good history lesson. We did both the house and museum tour.
Wandered the grounds and was variously awed and confused. The formality and variety of the gardens were quite splendid. The eclectic nature of the statuary was just weird - classical to modern to video game characters. Money can do great and mysterious things...
Amazing ribs and grits. Get a drink from Turtle bar and walk around.
This was truly the highlight of our trip to Louisiana. Our tour guide, Suzanna was outstanding and very engaging. The house, antiques, and the grounds are fantastic. We loved every minute of it. This is not to be missed
We have been to Houma House and it gets better every time we visit! The first time we visited was right after the filming of Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis. The second time someone had stolen the hand signed script by Bette Davis; so sad! It had been on a table in the hallway. I’ll never forget that
Did the mansion tour and the gardens. It was beautiful and amazing to hear the history and how it became what it was and how it is, still. Ruby was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable.
Tour guide was AMAZING! Showed us around the house. Gave us time to take pictures, ask questions, see it all. We easily wandered and took pictures for hours!
reason giving 4 stars, i was not impressed with the april 9th dinner. the prime rib was raw and did not taste good. was not worth $120 though the lunch was beautifully done. people at the front office didnt know much about what to do or where to go for the lunch. the table cloth was on the ground so when i got up my foot got tangled, pulled the cloth and dumped the flower and water everywhere twice. the duck in pecan sauce was really good. the chicken was ok. the salad had salad dressing already on it so the salad was soggy. i dont like condiments (salad dressing) so i didnt really enjoy the salad. also the destrahan plantation/houma plantation combo makes it hard to see both plantations when the last tour is at 4 and they are an hour away. the houmas plantation takes alot longer to see the gardens and tour than destrahan otherwise if destrahan had taken longer i wouldnt have been able to see both. the houmas plantation is gorgeous and the gardens are nice. there are some unsightly things in the gardens (fountains not working) few broken ornaments, some what looked like a metal trash pile in one of the ponds. the animals are a great addition. baby swans, the cats, the dogs, and peacocks were great. there are also ducks and swans in the front lawn. there were some baby swans that were just precious. overall the houmas plantation is beautiful and full of alot of really cool antiques. our tour guide got a little snappy wanting everyone to stick together but i couldnt get pictures in the rooms without people all in my pictures. i was doing my best to keep up but i paid to see everything just like everybody else did. i dropped over $200 this weekend alone at both plantations including $120 for the april 9th lunch. that doesnt include staying at nearby holiday inn for $110. i dont dress fancy and i look younger so maybe she thought it was deliberate but the people at destrahan waited for me to take pictures. i dont want a bunch of strange people in
Interesting look into the past. Very well-preserved. Excellent tour. The grounds are so beautiful and peaceful.
Had a lovely time at the Houmas House. The grounds are impeccably kept, and the rooms are spacious and charming. A great story about the evolution of the plantation over time. I would definitely come back!
It's a very lovely house surrounded by amazing trees, gardens and history!!
