The chai latte with oat milk and honey 🫡🤩🤩 so good. I attended an open mic event here twice. Hosted by @curations.dc on IG. Taylor was so warm, friendly and very encouraging to everyone. The owner was there the second time and not very friendly. People were kicked out at 9pm on the dot. I think a 5 min warning announcement would've been more respectful to paying customers. The event was very cool and an excellent way to experience the creative community.
Lovely shop
So fun to have a spot like this in the neighborhood. Great variety of ice cream flavors
Stopped by Calypso for a SoFar Sounds event - live intimate music that they host at venues around the area. Its a nice small ice cream shop in the Trinidad neighborhood. Nice art around the building with a few cool quotes inside. You order and purchase your ice cream on a screen and they call your number once it's ready. I had the chocolate chip ice cream and donut combo. Both were good - the donut could've been better if it were a little warm but overall pretty good. the service was good and the space was nice for the event. I would go back and check it out if i were in the area.
Impersonal experience for a local cafe Visited the shop early on, I did not like the kiosk experience. For a neighborhood cafe, the kiosk makes your visit cold and impersonal. You also can't customize your coffee. I asked if they had sugar free syrups and was just referred back to the kiosk. I wanted to give the local business a chance so I went back twice. I walked in to find NO ONE available to help. Called out and no one came out of the back office. Proceeded to leave without purchasing anything... twice. Two stars for the ice cream but I cannot support this business due to the lack of customer service and customer experience
Twee was such a great host and updated me thoroughly. I celebrated my fianceé’s birthday here, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Iesha was a great worker and helped us with getting familiar. This place is perfect for a party of 40 or less. This place has now created one of the most memorable moments in mine and my fianceé’s life. Thank you again!!
New establishment, friendly service and staff. Food is ok too... Iesha was great in explaining menu options and patient with me. I'll definitely be back.
Very cute shop in the middle of the Trinidad neighborhood. I was elated to see such a vibrant BLACK OWNED establishment in the heart of one of DC's original neighborhoods. Service was A1, all the staff were friendly and accommodating. Stop by, they're serving up smiles!! Went for an event, so I didn't get to try the ice cream, but I heard the Salted Caramel Cookies and Creme is a hit!
Wonderful community coffee and ice cream spot. Comfortable spot to hang out with delicious ice cream!
I went here for an event. It’s a nice ice cream shop with lots of options. I have a vanilla latte and it was quite arguably the best one I’ve ever had.
Lovely establishment! Yummy ice cream but my real favorite is their coffee! The outside is gorgeous and the staff are sweet beyond sweet. They utilize technology very well but is still a neighborhood-friendly spot for the locals.
Lovely neighborhood place!! Really friendly staff and great atmosphere. Dog friendly too!
Great local ice cream shop with a large selection and great service. The exterior and interior are beautiful. Perfect for selfies or a fun mini photo shoot! Will definitely return!
I've been waiting for a coffee shop to open in Trinidad since I moved in two years ago. I am ecstatic that Calypo is here! The exterior is beautiful, the ice cream is good, the interior feels like a mix between a locals spot and a chain (because it's cash only with order kiosks). But there are some components that need to improve: - The kiosks do not mark which items are out of stock. So you can order something then be told critical ingredients are unavailable, like oat milk or the actual donut you ordered. - The kiosk makes you enter your phone number, that can't be skipped. And the screen is large so anyone behind you can see your number. - The donuts are not fresh and are often stale. You can't compete with similar locations nearby if they sell daily made fresh pastries. - The orders are easily confused or missed because the food orders come up at one point behind the counter and the drink orders come up somewhere else, which makes sense. But then somehow tickets for food get missed or duplicated. - The espresso machine is high quality! I would recommend additional training for the staff. The ingredients are there but somehow the speciality drinks are lacking or incorrect. I ordered a cortado but received a double shot espresso. My friend ordered a matcha and said it was bitter. The drip coffee is fine. - The cost of beans is way too high for this neighborhood. I'll keep going, because this is a new business. With some training, changes, and more experience, I think it could be great!
What a wonderful neighborhood find! Great food and even better customer service!
Love that this quaint and fantastic place. Definitely know where I’m getting my coffee from now on!
We came in over the weekend to try the ice cream. My son asked for a second cone because the ice cream was so delicious. One of the best we have had!
So refreshing to have a beautiful space in the area. Now, Trinidad NE will be known for bringing community together for a real treat! There are vegan, ice cream choices, which is awesome!
I was there for the Grand Opening and they have a wide variety of ice creams and pastry I can't speak to the coffee since I don't drink coffee but everything looks great
I went to the grand opening and it was amazing. The service was very good and everyone on the staff was very friendly. The coffee was delicious and so was the ice cream. I would definitely recommend this to people. It is probably my new favorite spot!
