This is a hidden gem with amazing coffee. It isn't often your coffee leaves a lasting memory. I only get here once a year but I incorporate a stop anytime I am nearby.
We visited 4 coffee places recently on a quick trip to SD. This was the best spot of the 4 for speciality coffee drinks. Mayan Mocha was a nice and the staff was friendly. Maybe ppl in Cali don't wake up earlier enough but this place was super quiet and chill at 8am.
Latte and hot 🔥 chocolate were very good.
Plenty of great coffee choices, and tasty muffins and pastries.
My wife got a coffee that was terrible. Mine was ok.
My wife and I were staying at an AirBNB within walking distance of this place. I stopped in for a cappuccino each morning. The coffee was excellent. The owner was very nice.
While on vacation we this gem of a coffee shop and went back daily until we left. Great coffee and really nice people!! Highly recommend Kakawa coffee.
Staff was extremely nice. Tried a new coffee and didn’t like it so they let me swap it for something else. Very nice. Music was great too.
Try the kakawa latte. You won’t be disappointed!
Amazing coffee shop! I got a Kakawa Cappuccino and I loved it!!! Super high quality coffee beans, the owner is so sweet and delivers good customer service.
Was just there during business hours and not a single employee or open. This shop is closed down.

- updated- I went back as promised and Kakawa was open this time. The coffee was great and the place was just as cute inside as out. They had some vegan baked goods as well as standard goodies! Some chill tables on the street made for a nice coffee break. - Only because I walked here at 8:40 and the place not be open at all (says 8:00 on the door) . I’ll come back tomorrow and revise my score then. Place looks cute tho.
I really wanted to like it here… I felt some attitude from the staff because it was hard to hear inside. I ordered an iced coffee and when it was handed to me, I noticed there was avocado remnants on the lid right where you would put your mouth to the opening… oh and to top it off, a hair between the cup and the lid. I was so disgusted and didn’t want to deal with it so I just left. I ditched the lid when I could but I honestly didn’t even want to drink the coffee at that point. Not sure how avocado ended up on my lid and then to have a tiny hair touching the inside. Just gross.

Coffee was great and the woman who prepared it (I'm guessing she is the owner) was really friendly and helpful.
Coconut matcha was so good. It was the perfect sweetness and so smooth. I should’ve gotten a larger size. I didn’t want this drink to end!
I'm not a latte guy, but their Kakawa latte has brought me back several times. Espresso + coconut + dark chocolate = ❤️.
Great coffee place in the pleasant laid-back neighborhood. The coffee was delicious and lovingly prepared.
Small neighborhood place with extraordinary selection of coffees roasted here, and delicious pastries. Now have added live music on weekends. We love the cozy feel and energetic vibe! Have been here twice, although not local to us, and we plan to make it a regular destination.
