My partner and I love going to this cafe. The staff and the owners are kind, everything is made in-house with love, and the space is huge with ample seating. It’s nice to see how busy it has been since it opened, ladies playing majong, people curled up with a book, others getting some work done. They’ve really created a multi-use community space that has a touch of magic. It’s also a haven when our rural internet fails, which is often!

The coffee here is great. The food accommodates a variety of diets without conceding quality.

Frequent customer. Tastiest pastries and best coffee in town. One of the only coffee shops around that provides a nice place to work and chill for a long time. Good food and hard working staff

Huge space to work and tons of options for food & beverages. Lots of vegan baked goods, too!

I am so pleased with what is taking place in the space! The drinks are gooda and baristas are friendly. The plentitude of seating is condusive to interacting IRL and maybe even making new friends. My favorite perch is the front window adorned with real palnts, where I always see a loved one walk by and we have a short impromtu chat. What an improvement on our little town.

Couldn’t get enough of their gluten free baked goods! I had a cookie, cake and donut over the course of our time in Nevada city. The place itself is great to relax in or get work done. My husband ordered a sandwich and it was also delicious!

Great atmosphere to study, meet up with a friend or large tables for a meeting. I had the matcha which was beautiful and tasty.

Great coffee and atmosphere. More of a sit down and relax kind of place. The food is a bit pricey for how much you get but it tastes good.

This may be the best coffee shop I've ever been to, and I've been to many, all over the world. Amazing combination of great coffee, food, local art, ambience, and community support. Don't miss it!

These folks are wonderful! My dad and I came here together while he was in town and ordered breakfast. The food was forgotten on accident and when I spoke to the cashier, she immediately apologized, went to the back and made sure the order was in herself. She also totally refunded our charge and was super sweet. We loved the breakfast sandwiches. My dad really loved the service and the fact that the food came out quickly, once the order was put in correctly. It seemed like what happened with us was more to due with the food service just starting and the communication around that. The food service has been running for a while now, since we went. I go here regularly and consistently get amazing lattes - And, fantastic savory scones. Thank you for taking over this location and for expanding service to include a bar + food. I love this woman owned business!

UPDATE: I've dropped my rating from 5 🌟 to 2 🌟. In the last two months, I've hit up communal at least 2 or 3 times a week. In this time, I've had my order messed up five times (wrong size, wrong milk, etc) and my drinks made poorly (Luke warm, weak espresso, etc) several more times. At first, I was incredibly gracious about the mistakes but now that it seems like a pattern has emerged, I'm much less likely to visit or recommend this place as a spot for great coffee. To be fair, the atmosphere and baked goods are still top notch! The staff is also still friendly. I've been drinking coffee at this location for years as it's gone through various owners and iterations. Communal's aesthetic, atmosphere, style, and quality of coffee sets it apart as an all-around better café experience! 10/10 would recommend!! 😊

Super super slow service. I ordered the spicy mocha. It was really spicy, but more peppery than chocolatey. The drinks look nice. The orange chocolate cookie was good, but hard. The doughnut was weird. The pumpkin chocolate bread was great.

Great cafe with lots of gluten-free and vegan options. We had a fantastic lunch and a peach tart (with local peaches!) that was incredible. Everything is organic and baked on site -- you can really taste the quality in the food. There is a cute shop at the front of the cafe and they also sell flowers from a local farm. Communal Cafe is the best restaurant / coffee shop / lunch spot I've found in Nevada City!
