A great spot to sit and enjoy a coffee, or grab one on your way to the next thing
Marshall Schurtz
I live around the corner from this shop so I've been plenty of times for a quick cup of coffee. I have to split up the ratings into a few parts to be fair.
Coffee: 4.5- Good coffee, good price and certainly worth both sitting for a cup or grabbing something quick running to catch the bus.
Food: 2.5- EXTREMELY overpriced for most of the sandwiches, which are basically just sliced bread with some (albeit tasty) ingredients in the middle. A bagel and cream cheese is a fine price, and fine, but overall don't come here for food if you are actually hungry.
Overall ambiance: 4.5- The big windows on both corners make it a great place to watch people, and keep the cafe very bright. There are plenty of tables for working, or for chatting. It's not crystal clean like some of the newer shops, but I find the little grit exactly what I want in a coffee shop. There's also a large amount of space in the basement (though no windows so very dark down there). It also gets pretty cold in the winter, but that can be excused given the size, frequent door openings, and large windows.
Overall, great place!

Unprofessional and rude service on June 21, 2021 at 2:00pm.
After texting while I stand near the window for 5 minutes, server asks "do you want to put a tip on the card?" which is an inappropriate question you do not ask a customer. A tip is at the discretion of the customer and for the customer to initiate his or herself. The pressure of the server is provocative and not necessary.
When I declined, the server slammed shut the window right in my face. This is totally disgusting and uncalled for.
I will not going back to this cafe.

Came in for a quick bite for Sunday breakfast. Very quick and pleasant service. Food hit the spot. My only issue is coffee refills were $1.50. I personally don't feel like there should be a charge to fill up your average size coffee mug.

Popped in here for a quick coffee whilst visiting from the UK. My girlfriend had a bagel which she loved and it was the best iced coffee I've ever had!

First time here. The coffee was okay for the price. The other desserts were below average. The only reason I'm upset is that I tried to clean up a tablet to sit since I guess the last people didn't know where to put their dishes. I decided to put their cups next to the trash since I didn't see where the dishes were suppose to go. I get screamed at by both the cashier and barista that I am putting the dishes in the wrong place. Mind you there are many people in the shop. I was never so embarrassed. The wash bin where the dishes go was so obscure and the sign was barely noticeable. I honestly regretted tipping them when I was purchased my items. Needless to say, I put my dishes after I finished. I never got a thank you or an apology.

Merely average. I grabbed a chicken salad sandwich which had some of the driest bread I’ve ever tasted. Latte I had was fine. This place is really old & tired looking inside. It is in dire need of a deep scrubbing and a refresh and some new furniture. There are much better options out there.

I've been coming here occassionally for years, and having gluten free, veggie and vegan options, I'm still disappointed with the charge for the alternative dairy for my coffee when there's so many options here. They make a great cappuccino and tofu scramble but I come here as a treat when I don't feel like making my own soy variations at home.

the items I got were ok but I found $8 + change a bit much for a soy cappuccino and a bagel with butter but that's downtown for you I guess. also having the bathrooms downstairs and a kid in a stroller plus a big front step to get into this small place not worth the convenience of it being on the way... the staff was not overly friendly but just business as usual but it was coffee and a bagel! for that I was grateful!

This Café offers one of the best coffees and pastries in center City Philly. Sometimes on the more pricey side, it gives you exceptional service and an art deco interior to enjoy. The service is kind and WIFI very fast. It is a few blocks from Broad Street and the University of the Arts main campus. The old streets around the establishment serve for a good afternoon walk.
