I'm not too sure if we just came in on a bad day but the barista was incredibly rude and couldn't tell us if the bagels were vegan or not so we had to call ourselves to find out (your staff should be aware of all ingredients in case of severe allergies). When we finally ordered, the bagel had a long hair in the tapenade. When my husband went to bring his bagel with a hair in it to the counter, the employee just said "that's interesting" and didn't even offer to make another one until we asked him to and then when it was ready he made a passive aggressive remark saying "bagel number two is ready" as if we were being fussy by not eating the first hairy bagel. As a local, I will definitely not be coming back to this location.

Coffee here is delicious. Reasonable prices and a very quick stop on the way into downtown. Absolutely recommend the lavender and honey latte.
Unfortunately this place felt uncomfortable, the barista seemed overworked and out of sorts.
Would really like to see a second barista helping or more manageable work space. I felt like I committed a crime just asking a question about a menu. Maybe just an off morning, but I’d like to not feel so heavy going into what is allegedly a pleasant coffee shop.

I had a dark roast coffee and a multi-berry muffin. The muffin was good. The coffee was excellent. I was very happy with the staff. They were friendly and attentive. The shop is small, but comfortable and as I was there to meet with a colleague, I am glad to say it was a great place to have a conversation. What more could you ask?

Great coffee and muffins and banana bread. I’m obsessed with all three. But man do I miss the old barista. She would always give me “barista choice” and I always always enjoyed the drink not matter if it was a light roast, a mocha with cayenne, or a London fog with lavender. So friendly too! Went in last week and asked for a London fog and was given hot water with a tea bag and cold milk...would’ve made tea at home if that’s what I wanted and would’ve saved the money, and it wasn’t like she was overly friendly anyways. Does justice work at a different location now? Because I miss that lady!!
Anyways, if you get the beans here you’ll have a wonderful cup of coffee every morning, truly!

Justice is the BEST barista I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She’s very thoughtful and caring. Her sense of humor and candor is a bonus! She knows how to make the best Cortado in town. Highly recommend stopping by for a great cup deliciousness.

Finally! A really good coffee shop in North Asheville. Great coffee, friendly staff, and convenient location with easy parking. I really appreciate that they always have good gluten free muffin or bread options - the pumpkin and double chocolate ones are my favorites!

Stopped in here on the way home when I didn’t feel like driving to my usual spot further up Merrimon/Weaverville highway- so glad I did! Really nice cafe, with a diverse menu. Upon barista recommendation I got the cold brewed coconut lavender latte, whoa it’s divine! ✨ also had avocado toast, really great price for it (best in the area I think 💖) and the barista was kind enough to allow me to modify it for egg whites only. This has already become my go-to quick stop for good lattes and avo toast 🥑 ☕️ 😊

I would give less than one star if possible. Coffee is not that great. VERY unfriendly staff who are always on their cell phones instead of cleaning the filthy bathroom or any messes customers have left. Also was overcharged a couple of times by a young girl working there...skimming off till? or mistake?...not sure so watch receipts closely!! I would not reccomend this coffee shop to anyone ever and hope this review is helpful for anyone ever thinking about going to the pennycup coffee shop. Bad atmosphere because of staff, cleanliness, and questionable business practices are good reasons to stay away from places like this!

Delicious and reasonable coffee, great atmosphere and friendly staff! Spacious indoor and outdoor seating area. Many beverages with dairy alternatives.

Interesting First Experience. I moved to North Asheville from Washington, DC. PennyCup Coffee was recommendation from my relator. I ordered a large coffee. I asked the employee on the various sizes of coffee. Again, It was my first visit PennyCoffee. After that communication, there was hardly any ensuing communication outside of me inquiring on protocol to leave a tip. I provided a 1.00 tip. There was no thank you after transaction or asking if I had been in the establishment previously to communicate additional PennyCoffee items provided. . There were no other customers in the coffee shop. There was no good bye as I exited the establishment.
Clearly, the customer service missed the mark. I will frequent again - but the hope it was just a bad day for the employee.
