THE ORDER

We love The Order! We moved to the area during the pandemic back in May so with limited human interaction the folks at The Order made us feel so welcome! Always remembering our orders and greeting us by name via phone or in the shop. Helps that the food and coffee are amazing too :).

I’ve visited three times. The first time was excellent. Not a complaint to mention that time. I had such a great experience I told several people about it.

The 2nd time was off putting considering, Sheldon, the front of house lead came over to our table to explain something and used curse words in speaking to us. We don’t know this man personally . He wasn’t cursing AT us however, it felt off and completely uncalled for. Extremely unprofessional.

I went for the 3rd time this weekend. All is going well until one of the other patrons begins a coughing and sneezing fit that lasts about 5 minutes ( at least). Less than every 20 seconds this person was either coughing or sneezing. Vaccine or not; this is indoors and the dinning room isn’t big. There aren’t any open doors or windows. I was patient. I Considered whether I was overreacting but then I thought..NO, COVID is a real thing. Whether or not you adhere to protocols; at this point and time we have a social contract that includes not having sneezing or coughing fits inside small public spaces. It’s selfish.

I wait a few more minutes before explaining the situation to a staff member and she tells me I should wait to speak to Sheldon. He’s made aware I’m waiting to speak with him while making a few coffee drinks. He finally comes over and I explain to him what’s been happening. I ask him to listen for the coughing before addressing the situation. He does just that.

He finally walks over to the table and speaks to the patron briefly.

He then walks back to our table and explains “ They’re good. It’s not COVID” IM SHOCKED. You would think Sheldon is walking COVID test the way he confidently asserted it WASN’T COVID. I ,of course , mentioned “there’s no way for you to know this”. He then mentions that “ they’re nice people”. I reply “I’m sure they’re lovely people. That’s not what’s in question. That’s not the issue.”

Sheldon then says “ I can seat you guys outside if you like”. This was insulting and frankly irresponsible considering all the staff had masks on.

If you want people coughing and sneezing up a storm while you eat…come here.

Wouldn’t come back here if you paid me.

I’ve dined in and also done takeout from here for breakfast and it was amazing in both instances. If you are looking for breakfast in south orange look no further.

The new cafe in town is making tons of noise so I had to try it out. I have to say my expectations were surpassed. The venue is beautifully designed and perfect for either a quick bite or a cute date. I tried the chicken and lamb over rice, called the "Double Trouble" and it was exceptional. Compared to the usual "CnR" spots that are drenched in white sauce, this food was actually good for the perfectly seasoned and juicy meat. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, PLUS its super clean. Found my new go to.

This place is a vibe. Quality ingredients and people.

We had an amazing cappuccino and mocha latte! Perfect temperature, right amount of foam, smooth flavor. Looking forward to coming back for the food in this cute little cafe.

I have found that some places do most things right, some places do everything right, but it’s rare to find a place that does everything exceptional! If you’re looking for a cafe that achieves this feat, then you have to come to The Order!

I have zero affiliation with anyone here, so these are genuine words that describe our experience there, one night. We felt at home. We felt like everything they served to us came with a high level of pride. The friendly service was more than just friendly, there was a family vibe here, as if they welcomed us into their home.

We are definitely going back!

absolutely loved my experience at The Order! The food was AMAZING and the staff was incredibly kind! Coffee was great, the Rosa sandwich was great, I have no complaints! I would 100% recommend this spot.

The Order is my favorite coffee shop/restaurant. And I don’t say that lightly! The food and the coffee are always excellent and the staff is always beyond helpful and friendly. Would (and do) highly recommend!
