I'm a regular customer at Dunn Brothers in Oakdale. Our coffee and desserts are always great, and the staff are friendly and efficient. I love the warm, cozy atmosphere and the consistent cleanliness of the bathroom. I recommend it to all my friends. I am a bit surprised by the number of people who seem to have a sense of entitlement about using parts of a privately owned small business for free. If I understand correctly, all Dunn Brothers are locally owned small businesses. Have a heart folks!
Dunn Bros Oakdale is the BEST coffee shop in the Twin Cities. I will drive out of my way just to get my coffee, beans or other beverage from this shop. From the baristas to the owner, they are more than friendly and meet and greet all who come into the shop. I recommend this shop to everyone I know. I can't believe I have read negative comments. I think those are just people who want something for nothing and abuse the generosity of the shop and its owners. I would HIGHLY recommend this shop to all.
I received the worst customer service of any coffee shop at the Oakdale Dunn Bros. The owner and one employee were working. When my mom and I asked if we got a free drink when we bought a giftcard (as most Dunn Bros do), the owner said, "Well, we do for regular customers." After we explained to him that we frequent Dunn Bros wherever we go, but that we just don't live around here, he reluctantly replied, "Well, I guess we'll do it." So I ordered a $25 giftcard. My mom bought 2 pounds of beans (totaling $35), and then they asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered a large iced latte to share. The owner, who made the drink, was not cheerful; he continued to be irritated at us for requesting a free drink. When we got back to the car, we realized they in fact had charged us for the drink! After spending $60 at the establishment, you would think the owner could bare to lose the $1 that it costs to make an iced latte. I will drive out of my way to go to a different coffee shop next time. The Oakdale Dunn Bros has lost my family's business forever.
I had asked an employee to meet me at this location, and arrived early. I bought a drink and a muffin and consumed them while waiting, and then discarded the remnants. My employee arrived shortly after, and we talked for 45 minutes or so before leaving. The owner chased us out of the store to remind us that 'This is a family owned business, and next time you come in I would appreciate it if you buy something.'. I informed him that I had done so and he left without apologizing. If he had spoken to either of the two employees that I interacted with when I made my purchase, he could have found this out. Instead, he chose to harrass me.
The store was not busy, and there were plenty of tables available, but the guy was a jerk. I would not return here. There is a nice Starbucks in the Target on the other side of the highway. If you are in a service industry, you should be committed to great service, not harrassing your customers.
We used to frequent this location several times a week. We have since taken our $100 a week coffee purchase elsewhere. The owner has treated us rudely on many occassions. The last straw was when we had placed our usual order, he barked at the barista "what is taking you so long" There was one person behind us when we ordered?!? We had a coupon for a free coffee that they would not honor, even though we were told they would honor it. Was it worth losing my business over a few bucks?
This DB is one of the best. Great atmosphere to hang and enjoy a drink. In the winter, sit by the fire place in a comfy chair. In the summer, the quick service will get you in and out fast so you can enjoy the weather! Music at night sometimes... so that's fun too. ohhh... parking is easy too. No awkward small parking lot stuff to deal with.
